Celebrity agent training scheme ‘back and bigger’

Josie Klein

Celebrity for Beginners is “back and bigger than ever”, according to Celebrity Cruises’ senior sales director for the UK, Ireland and EMEA. Claire Stirrup said the programme,

which goes live on March 14, has been designed “entirely with agents in mind”, and will give new-to-cruise and new-to-brand agents “everything they need to know” to sell Celebrity Cruises sailings. The programme, which is

being run in partnership with Travel Weekly, gives agents access to virtual masterclasses, a ship visit programme, newsletters and a seminar at sea. Leon Hand, training manager

for the EMEA region, will also run in-person masterclasses in London and Manchester to give agents the opportunity to learn face-to-face, in addition to hosting online sessions, the first of which is scheduled for March 25. All agents who sign up to the

programme will also receive monthly newsletters containing the latest information from the brand, as well as sales tips. Additionally, the line is giving

away 10 places on a seminar at sea on board Celebrity Apex this year.

We want to give our

trade partners all the information they need at their fingertips

The dates of the trip are yet to be announced, but each winning agent will be able to bring a guest. To enter, agents must attend either four virtual masterclasses or one face-to-face masterclass and complete the beginners training modules on Celebrity Central. Stirrup said the training will be

delivered in “short, sharp sessions” to accommodate agents’ busy schedules

to fill commercial manager role Zoe Edwards has moved from Celebrity Cruises to join the Advantage Travel Partnership as commercial manager. She replaces Jo Turney who left in December. and to keep the programme “as simple and straightforward as we can”. “We want to make our trade

partners’ lives as easy as possible and give them all the information they need at their fingertips,” she said. Stirrup emphasised that the

programme is also open to agents who have sold Celebrity Cruises before but want to brush up on their skills. She added: “This is for absolutely

anyone who wants to improve their knowledge. The cruise industry is growing and there are so many new ships it’s hard to keep up with who’s doing what, so we built this

for everyone.” i Agents can sign up and find out more at travelweekly.co.uk/celebrityforbeginners

Sustainable Aviation calls for

action from next government Sustainable Aviation has produced a manifesto calling on the next UK government to step up efforts on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the bid to make aviation a net-zero sector by 2050. The group has appealed for a quicker rollout of technology to help the removal, capture and storage of carbon.

Agents say hikes in term-time fines won’t be effective

Travel agents say government plans to increase fines for taking children out of school to go on holiday are unlikely to stop parents booking term- time breaks. From August, fines for

unauthorised absences in England are set to rise from £60 to £80 per child if paid within 21 days and from £120 to £160 if paid in 28 days, according to the Department for Education. Agents said parents will

weigh up the price differential and continue booking term- time holidays, given the savings are far greater than the cost of the school fines. Miles Morgan Travel owner

Miles Morgan said parents would simply “do the numbers” so that they can work out which is the cheaper option. “They will look at how much

the fine is and how much the holiday is and take a view,” he said, adding: “It will not change anything if fines go up; parents will decide that it’s a risk worth taking.” Greenstar Travel owner

Martyn Fisher agreed: “If you are going to put fines in place, you have to make it more expensive than the holiday cost. In any case, not all schools impose fines.”
