proudly showcases its vibrant heritage through villages across the country, and 14 have been honoured as The Most Beautiful Villages of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Here, age-old stone dwellings tell stories of the past, while timeless bridges and fortresses are steeped in heritage. These regions boast breathtaking natural landscapes,
distinctive architecture and warm-hearted locals, promising an unforgettable experience for your clients.
Natural wonders If your clients are keen to marvel at some breathtaking natural sites, recommend a visit to Krupa Na Vrbasu or Martin Brod in the country’s north. Both of these lush oases boast impressive vistas and winding rivers that are crowned by stunning waterfalls. To further connect with the great outdoors, take to the walking
trails of Pecka – just outside the city of Mrkonjić Grad – that meander through the undisturbed forest of the Eco Zone Zelenkovac, or opt for a hike through the mountain village of Bobovac. Here, relax beside the crystal-clear streams, or venture a little farther to nearby Mijakovići and Dragovići to admire traditional Bosnian houses. Visitors will never tire of the views at Prokoško, a small town
amid snow-capped peaks. Wild fruits and plants grow beside the glacier lake, which is also home to tritons, the region’s native newts. Adventurers should explore Vjetrenica Cave in Ravno, home to the unique “human fish” salamander.
A dose of culture Unique culinary creations can be found in Stupe, where visitors can sample the locally produced Livno cheese, explore the nearby vast forest and marvel at the wild horses. Traditional crafts are a key aspect of Bosnia and
Herzegovina’s village life, and the arts of blacksmiths and craftsmen are showcased in Vranci. Here, visitors can gain an insight into the region’s impressive past. There’s also plenty of history to be uncovered in Umoljani and
Bratač. Umoljani, a short drive from the capital, Sarajevo, is known for its folklore and legends, while Bratač, near to Mostar, is home to the Nevesinje Olympics, the region’s oldest traditional games.

Outstanding monuments Step into a fairytale in Ostrožac – a serene town defined by its castle, which stands tall upon a hill and looks like it’s been plucked from a storybook. Pockets of medieval and Ottoman architecture can be found here, while in Kraljeva Sutjeska, the iconic monastery showcases typical central Bosnian architecture, and is perfect for those keen to learn more about the local cultural heritage. Guča Gora and Blagaj both teem with natural beauty and breathtaking
religious monuments. The Franciscan Monastery is tucked away in the Guča Gora hills, while just outside Mostar, the Blagaj Tekke is a Sufi place of worship and a renowned example of Ottoman architecture – yet another wonder to discover in the country’s beautiful villages.
