Railbookers returns to New Zealand with six itineraries
Samantha Mayling
Train specialist Railbookers has reintroduced New Zealand to its portfolio, with the addition of six itineraries in the destination. The trips, which range from eight to 19 days,
incorporate travel on three trains: the Northern Explorer, between Auckland and Wellington; the Coastal Pacific, between Picton and Christchurch; and the TranzAlpine, between Christchurch and Greymouth. The new itineraries also feature the Interislander
ferry, which crosses between the North Island and South Island. Sightseeing excursions and activities available include the Waitomo Caves, Fiordland National Park and a traditional Maori feast. The eight-day Essential New Zealand tour costs
from £2,099, excluding flights. The itinerary starts in Auckland, then takes clients to Wellington onboard the
Waitomo Caves
Northern Explorer train. A guided tour of Te Papa, New Zealand’s National Museum, is included in the capital. Clients will then take a ferry across the Cook Strait
before journeying down to Christchurch on the Coastal Pacific train. The Ultimate New Zealand holiday is a 19-day
itinerary featuring eight destinations from Auckland to Christchurch. It visits the Bay of Islands, the Hobbiton movie set from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, Rotorua, Waitomo, Christchurch, Franz Josef, Queenstown and Dunedin. Experiences include whale- watching in Kaikoura and a Milford Sound day trip. It costs from £6,649 not including flights. Frank Marini, Railbookers Group president and
chief executive, said: “Our collection of New Zealand trips allows travellers to enjoy everything that the North and South islands have to offer, without the hassles of driving or figuring out how to make it all work.”
