The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Green list: Why no countries added?
Story: Government confirms Portugal switch from green to amber There are now 25 countries, including the likes of Grenada and the US, that meet the requirements for the green list as published, yet nothing was added. Also, the government ignored the use of the green watch list and should not have switched Portugal to amber until at least next Sunday to give people time to return. Instead of people having relaxing holidays after 15 months of torture, they are now getting stressed trying to get home before Tuesday, when there is absolutely no need for this. Andys42
I’d like to share a message I received from a client on Friday. He wrote: “Hi Andy, I don’t think it will come as much of a surprise if I say that I would like to rearrange my Canaries trip to similar dates in September 2022. I think the chances of any kind of restful and relaxing holiday abroad this year went out of the window yesterday. Best wishes, Stephen.” Andy Tomlinson, managing director, Sutton Travel
Brian Young @brianryoung G Adventures It’s time for a day of action – our voices need to be heard. Save the date, get on board on the 23rd from 12.30 at the Houses of Parliament #traveldayofaction
Andy Freeth @Andy_Freeth JG Travel Group I have an idea. Let’s stop paying @grantshapps from our taxes for the next 15 months and then ask him to give everything back that he earned in the last year. Then, and only then, will he really understand the plight of thousands of businesses in the travel sector.
Newbies: Drive is key
Agent Diary: ‘There’s no need to be sniffy about newbie agents’ Eileen Beasley: I changed careers into travel in my 40s. I had 10% knowledge and 90% drive to succeed, which I did. Best of luck to any newbie who has that passion.

Portugal: Final was own goal
Story: Trade petition demands vote of no confidence in Grant Shapps Michelle Clarke: Funny how they can let the football [Champions’ League Final] happen and now wonder why cases are up in Portugal. Surely that wonderful decision didn’t help!
OTB: Refunds
Story: Consumers ‘holding refund credit notes worth £781m’ I am always slightly mystified by On the Beach’s ‘holier than thou’ image. Even a cursory glance at their Facebook page or Trustpilot reviews shows they have many customers begging for a refund. Stones and glass houses and all that.
Phil Bloomfield Q Travel Weekly would welcome a response from On the Beach
