The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Refunds: Operators, do right thing
Bounce-back: Be
Comment: Growing tired of the ‘panpanic’ We are refunding all package bookings in full within 14 days as per the Package Travel Regulations. I feel fortunate to be in a position to abide by the law. We can do this because we have no debt, have retained cash and have credit with our major suppliers so haven’t yet handed over the customer money to them. I have some sympathy with operators, especially small ones, which have paid airlines and ground suppliers and are unable to get that cash back. But even so, operators need to do the right thing and guarantee full refunds. There are too many travel companies ignoring the law simply because it suits them. Olly Brendon, ATD Travel Services

ready for short lates Story: Tui to furlough 11,000 in UK The bounce-back will be massive, when it comes. There will be a short, high-volume lates season, and for summer 2021, a possible return to the 1990s when customers dared to book a year ahead. The companies that prepare the best, and have the brightest, hungriest teams of sales staff, will win the day. Ian Redpath
Gemma Antrobus @LuxuryTravelGem Two great phone-ins with @BBCSurrey and @BBCSussex answering listeners’ questions their travel plans and #Covid19. Most questions came from those who have booked all elements separately and can’t get hold of the individual suppliers. This leads me to believe that those who have booked packages with #travelagents and #touroperators have got answers already... after this, please book a package!
Furlough: Treat agents differently
Story: Travel firms’ employees ‘should be essential workers’ In these unprecedented times, the government should allow agents to be furloughed and work from home on admin and refunds to assist customers. Agents aren’t like other business and can’t just shut up and leave everything, like a gym or hairdressers. Agencies still have to look after clients’ bookings but aren’t making any money and are losing all their revenue. Vicki Welnitschuk
Derek Jones @Degsy_DJ This morning I will be
mostly moving ‘panpanic’ to the top of my really annoying portmanteau words list.

Clients: No choice Story: Government delay threatens ‘mass failures’ I totally understand why customers feel like they have no choice when firms like easyJet make it impossible to speak to anyone to arrange a refund, and a credit note is not wanted. Jo Marron
