Art

For thousands of years, people have been creating, looking at, criticising and enjoying art. The word can refer to the visual arts, including painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, decorative arts, crafts, or other visual works that combine a range of traditional, contemporary, new and digital media.

artworks will form an important part of my studies

Art involves the arranging of elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. It is a visual language used to give form to ideas and to communicate those ideas with an intended audience.

Studying art and experiencing a wide variety of ideas, practices and media encourages self- expression and creativity. It can also build confidence as well as nurture a sense of individual identity because it promotes critical thinking and supports the development of problem-solving skills.

Art strengthens the ability to communicate ideas. As you learn to express ideas in your own work, you should also be better able to make connections across other subjects at Senior Cycle.

Art in Senior Cycle is structured to include Practical Studies and Visual Studies in a process of three interlinked and interdependent strands: Research, Create and Respond.
