Dartmouth Regatta: August


Family Fun Weekend Saturday 23rd August through to Monday 25th August


Dartmouth’s Royal Regatta is the town’s biggest and most celebrated event, drawing visitors and locals alike for nearly 180 years. Set against the stunning backdrop of the River Dart, this historic festival blends thrilling water sports, lively entertainment, and cherished traditions.


A WEEK OF UNMISSABLE EVENTS. On the Water: Watch as competitive rowing crews battle it out in exhilarating races, culminating in the prestigious Championship on the Dart. Admire a blend of sailing in the harbour and out at Start Bay run by the Joint Regatta Sailing Committee (JRSC) alongside our Regatta. Join in the legendary Kontiki Raft Race or


Whether it’s dancing on the beach, stroking an award-winning Devonshire bull, watching a military air display or eating local crab by the water, there’s an event to suit everyone in this part of Devon (see pages 62-63). Dartmouth Regatta is still the jewel in the crown attracting thousands from near and far whilst music and food lovers await our very own local music and food festivals with the promise of a buzzing weekend in May and October respectively. South Devon is brimming with the best food, music and even pirates so watch out for a year of exciting events.


the Bungee? The historic Regatta 180 River Parade will showcase the rich maritime heritage of the Dart, with a special appearance by the beloved Paddle Steamer, Waverley on the Saturday afternoon.


On the Land: Royal Avenue Gardens will once again be filled with free live music every day, alongside family-friendly entertainment, the ever-popular Waiters & Waitresses Race, and the bustling Regatta Shopping Parade, featuring local businesses along the Embankment.


Tradition: The Regatta’s proud history continues with the Official Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 27th August, featuring a performance by His Majesty’s Band of the Royal Marines. Since Queen Victoria bestowed the Royal title in 1856, the event has remained a highlight of Dartmouth’s calendar.


Fun for All Ages: Running all week is the much-loved Spot the Oddity and Best Dressed Window Competition,
