Half-day seminar shares agenting best practices
Probably the flagship event for BolognaBooksPlus—BCBF’s parallel industry event, with an adult and general trade focus, which was launched virtually last year—this half-day series of seminars is centred around best practice for current working agents, as well as tips for those who want to get into the sector. Novelist Michèle Roberts will deliver the keynote on how agents benefited her career, while Curtis Brown’s Isobel Gahan and LBA co-founder Luigi Bonomi will discuss the role of the agent and how to build relationships. Polish scout Karolina Jaszecka, Lithuanian deal-maker Benas Bėrantas and Tel Aviv-based agent Stephanie Barrouillet will share a panel on how they work in countries where literary agents are not the norm.

seminar looking at reading promotion and reader train- ing in regions and communi-
ties where access to books, bookshops and libraries is challenged—a situation which has been exacerbated globally by deepening social inequalities and the pandemic. The panel will provide a deep dive into some of these “international movements, best practices and inspiring experiences”
The multi-hyphenate Israeli children’s author/graphic novelist/filmmaker/actor/ adult short story writer Etgar Keret will deliver a lecture on what will undoubtedly be on the minds of most this Bologna: with war raging in Ukraine (and, let’s not forget, in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and the 18 other armed conflicts the UN says are currently being waged across the
globe), what sort of stories should we be writing and telling our children? Keret is one of Israel’s greatest contemporary writers, perhaps most famous in the Anglophone world for the children’s titles Dad Runs Away with the Circus and Long-Haired Cat-Boy Cub, and the short story collections Missing Kissinger and Fly Already.
