Total volume of Guenther Steiner’s Surviving to Drive
2024 Sport biography & autobiography The word on a summer of sport
more than 113,000 copies since 2017, and strategist Bernie Collins’ How to Win a Grand Prix, which hit shelves in May. Rugby coach Kevin Sinfield,
who raised money for charity by running with his recently deceased friend Rob Burrow, is currently in second place with The Extra Mile—the number one title for 2023 across these subcategories. Too Many Reasons to Live by Burrow, who was laid to rest on 7th July, also appears in the chart. Their friendship inspired a children’s book called With You Every Step, co-authored by the pair, that has sold 57,201 copies to date. European history
makes an interesting left-field appearance in the chart in The Tennis Champion Who Escaped the Nazis by Felice Hardy and The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown, combining readers’ interests in both sport and 1930s Germany. The biggest surprise

KEVIN SINFIELD:
of all though might be veteran snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan’s autobiography Unbreakable, which was shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year last year. Sneaking into 20th place is Alex
Ferguson’s autobiography. When the hardback edition was released in October 2013, it shot straight to the top of the sports charts and claimed the number one spot among biographies that year with more than 800,000 copies sold. That year, the combined subcat- egories hit a TCM value of £24.7m, largely supported by Ferguson. A decade earlier in 2003, value
reached an all-time high of £28.8m when David Beckham’s My Side was on top. Annual results have fluctuated over the past two decades, but value through the TCM has been on the low side for the past three years in a row, hovering around the £12.5m-mark,
and—in terms of units sold—volume has not cracked 1.5 million copies since 2015. It’s past half-time for 2024 and
current value rests at an uninspir- ing £3.4m with a humble 301,261 copies sold, but there’s still plenty of time on the clock to make up the difference on the scoreboard.
