Take a hike: David Nicholls strolls past some strong competition to take top spot
Nicholls’ ascent to number one has calmed the waters of a remarkable news week in the trade
A Week ending 12th July 2025
fictional tale in which two people take a walk across some of England’s most beautiful scen-
ery has made it to the top of the charts, according to the latest data from NielsenIQ BookData’s Total Consumer Market (TCM). No, it is not Raynor Winn getting
a “no publicity is bad publicity” fillip: it is the paperback edition of You Are Here by David Nicholls, which in its second week on sale sold 20,124 copies, a jump of 20.6% on its launch period. It is the eighth time that Nicholls has arrived at the summit of the Official UK Top
50, but his first time hitting the Mass-Market Fiction (MMF) chart after slightly more than a decade when Us bagged the pole position in May 2015. Nicholls pushes Claire Douglas
out of the prime spot in the MMF Top 20 as sales of The New Neighbours dropped 23.1% to 13,062 copies in its fourth week, although that is enough to keep it in third place in the TCM Top 50. In a week light on new releases,
the only major changes to the MMF Top 20 this week – apart from re-entries for Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing and Iron Flame – is a debut appearance for TM Logan’s
The Daughter. In its second week on sale, Logan’s thriller has moved 7,484 copies, an 83% growth compared to the previous seven days for Logan and enough to put him in ninth place in the MMF chart and 10th place overall. The only title in this week’s TCM
Top 10 that is not a fiction paper- back, Katie Kirby’s Lottie Brooks vs The Ultra Mean Girls, drops from first to second place following a 30.7% reduction in sales compared with its second week on sale. But Kirby’s middle-grade novel comfortably keeps first place in the Children’s Top 20 with 16,275 copies sold, more than twice Coco Wyo’s Cozy Corner, despite the colouring book’s take rising 13.5% to keep it in second place. Experiencing even bigger
growth is Bunny vs Monkey: The Great Big Glitch, which has hopped into third place with 58.9% extra sales this week, a total of 5,509 copies, putting Jamie Smart’s latest into 19th place in the TCM.
David Nicholls takes pole position with second-week paperback sales of 20,124 of You Are Here
