• Place the bar magnet on a table. • Repeat step 1 from “Gone Fishing,” involving the knotted string, magnetic post, and ring magnet.


• Hold the post steady in one hand, letting the ring hover close to the bar.


• Use what you learned in the previous experiment: Can you make the bar spin in a circle, or the ring swing in the opposite direction?


Tip: investigate the play of poles by holding and moving the ring over the bar. Also, try holding the post over the bar!
