Richmond International has also worked with healthcare professionals as part of its work for Auriens, which is bringing 55 high- end residences for retirees to Chelsea next year. “We worked very closely with the experts at Auriens and spent time with occupational therapists, particularly in developing a bathtub and the bathroom function itself,” says Fiona Thompson, Richmond International’s principal. “The shower controls are a push paddle, which allows for easy operation whilst still retaining the clean and smart design aesthetic. There will also be integrated smart technology, developed by Auriens, within the suite and bathroom, which includes automatic bathtub filling and the option for an automatic washlet toilet,” Thompson continues. “We have carefully selected natural and appropriate materials of an elevated quality. For example, marble mosaic looks beautiful but is also slip-resistant.” According to Motionspot’s Ed Warner, the industry is watching closely what happens at Auriens. “It’s going to be really interesting in the market, because it is at the very top end for aesthetics, for a demographic that is on the increase,” he says. “There are lots of operators looking at it to see what they are doing and how they might implement something similar in their own schemes.”
