News NCF announces CEOs & Senior Directors Conference

The National Care Forum has announced its 2024 CEOs & Senior Directors Conference. Open to all senior leaders and trustees in the not-for-profit care and support sector, the conference will give both NCF members and non-members the opportunity to collaborate and network. The event will take place at Wyboston Lakes Resort in Bedfordshire in November, with an evening networking event on Monday 25th and full conference programme on Tuesday 26th.

NCF CEO Vic Rayner OBE said: “We are

excited to bring a brand new programme to our CEOs & Senior Directors Conference this year to give our members, and providers

from the wider not-for-profit sector, the opportunity to hear from some new voices in the sector. We are pleased to also welcome back speakers from the world of local government and regulation too. “As well as addressing the implications of a new government and policy landscape, our programme of plenary sessions, panels and workshops will help providers navigate the tricky topics to be overcome in order to run a successful not-for-profit care and support business. Senior leaders and trustees can select from a workshop programme covering core areas of finance, governance, learning disability, practice and quality, HR, and technology & digital. Our aim is to

enable senior leaders in care and support to build their own agenda based on the specific priorities of their business while learning and networking in a collaborative environment.”

Prestigious Royal honour for apetito

apetito has been presented with the prestigious King’s Awards for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. Presented by Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Lt.

Leading providers gather for Care England event

Executives from the UK’s leading social care providers recently gathered for an event hosted by Care England and Wagestream. The event saw the launch of a new report,

Inclusion at the Crossroads, which highlights the financial inclusion challenges faced by social care staff – particularly women and ethnic minorities – who are more likely to grapple with two key predictors of financial exclusion: lower pay and variable income. The report recommends that providers:

n Meet the standards for living hours as provided by the Living Wage Foundation. n Provide support for employees to access state assistance they are entitled to. n Implement a payroll savings program, ideally on an opt-out basis, to help employees build savings by default.

n Review workplace policies and benefits through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and prioritise providing financial security benefits that are useful and accessible for the whole workforce.

Care England CEO Professor Martin Green OBE said: “For a sector as diverse as social care, inclusion is crucial. This groundbreaking report has highlighted financial exclusion as a challenge for every provider to be aware of. While solving this is not solely an employer’s responsibility, there are clear steps providers can take to support. The commitment made today by some of the biggest players in the sector represents a strong commitment to fostering greater inclusion among this critical workforce.”

General Sir Andrew Gregory KBE, CB, DL, the award is apetito’s fourth Royal honour, with the meals provider having previously won three Queen’s Awards for Enterprise – two for Innovation in 2005 and 2016, and one in 2019 for Sustainable Development. This latest honour recognises apetito’s commitment to conducting business in a way that impacts positively on the environment, society and economy. In particular, it celebrates apetito’s

dedication to sustainability, its pledge to reach Net Zero by 2040, and the work it has taken in delivering actions to meet challenging short-term targets for carbon reduction and supporting climate change – targets which are validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

apetito held a celebratory lunch, inviting

over 40 of its Long Service Heroes – apetito staff with more than 20 years’ service. The Vice Lord-Lieutenant said: “It’s

impressive for a business to be recognised four times with the UK’s highest business accolade. “apetito is one of just 29 businesses that

were recognised in 2024 for their work in Sustainable Development. The company is an exemplar of a business that leads the way through its actions to reduce its impact on the environment.”
