see its impact on real lives. When families talk about the nurse who stayed with their mother during her final hours. When staff share the small moments that restore dignity and joy to residents’ lives. When leaders demonstrate how culture, compassion and accountability shape the life of a home. These stories remind the public why care
matters. There is also another important lesson
from the frontline: transparency builds trust. Families want reassurance that their loved ones are safe and well cared for. Providers want to demonstrate the quality of care they deliver. At CCFTV I have long championed independent, choice-led safety monitoring because we believe transparency benefits
everyone - residents, families, staff and providers alike. When openness becomes part of
the culture of care, confidence grows. Transparency should not be viewed as a threat to providers. Instead, it offers an opportunity to demonstrate professionalism, accountability and confidence in the care being delivered. If the sector wants greater public
engagement and political attention it must continue to demonstrate both the challenges and the solutions. That means listening carefully to the workforce, to families and to those who have lived experience of the system. Real reform does not begin in policy
papers or government departments. It begins with the care worker supporting someone through a difficult moment, with the manager creating a culture of openness and accountability, and with families sharing their experiences and advocating for change. If we truly want social care to matter to the

public, we must bring those frontline voices into the national conversation. Because the people closest to care understand its value better than anyone.n
