We are expanding our central team to include new posts that will provide clinical expertise and leadership to our community based services. This will support change in our care culture, delivering this care and clinical practice model. We want the people we support to live lives filled with meaning and purpose, supporting great physical health that reduces decline and avoids hospital stays. An exciting example of this is in our home in Romsey, Hampshire, where we have plans in install a Virtual Reality Memory Train. Working in collaboration with Frank Berine Furnishings and a Glasgow-based artist joiner, the project aims to enhance the wellbeing of residents, particularly those with memory conditions, by offering immersive VR experiences or calming TV screen visuals. The VR sessions will allow residents to relive memories or explore familiar places, while an artist- designed train carriage will provide a comfortable, creative environment tailored to their needs. This is a really exciting project that we hope will offer our residents something truly unique.
Looking forward It is fair to say that everyone across the social care sector is facing several challenges and an uncertain future, due to rising costs and demand alongside questionable financial support from the Autumn Budget. Dr Nichola Stefanou
Dr Nichola Stefanou was appointed CEO of HMT in September 2022. With over 20 years of experience in health and social care, she has held various senior leadership positions. Nichola is passionate about integrating community services to reduce health inequalities. Previously, she served as the director of care and clinical for Homegroup, one of the largest housing associations in the UK. In that role, she led the development of a specialised care offering focused on supporting individuals with complex needs who required long-term health and social care, alongside tailored housing solutions to help them live within the community.

Nichola has also held senior leadership roles within major NHS provider trusts and has experience as a lecturer in higher education. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she holds a doctorate and serves as a trustee for the Laidlaw Schools Trust.
