Enduring challenges and the importance of supplier relationships

By Professor Martin Green OBE l Chief Executive, Care England

Adult social care is the backbone of a compassionate and functioning society. It supports millions of people to live with dignity, choice, and independence, while offering vital employment of around 1.6 million individuals across the country. Yet despite its critical role, the sector faces enduring challenges – from funding shortfalls and workforce shortages to the need for sustainable innovation and infrastructure. In this context, the relationship between care

providers and the broader ecosystem of suppliers has never been more important. The Care Home Industry Handbook is more than a directory; it is a symbol of partnership and possibility. It highlights the breadth and depth of organisations dedicated to supporting the care sector – from those providing cutting-edge technology to enhance safety and efficiency, to specialists in training, design, and wellbeing who contribute to a more person-centred, resilient service. For providers, the demands are immense: maintaining high-quality care in the face of tightening budgets, navigating ever-evolving regulatory frameworks, and responding to the complex needs of the people they support.

6 THE CARE HOME INDUSTRY HANDBOOK 2026

At the same time, suppliers are under pressure to innovate rapidly and offer value in a crowded and competitive marketplace. But when these groups collaborate effectively, the results can be transformational. Take, for example, the advances we have seen in digital care planning, medication management, and AI-assisted pain detection. These are not just technical innovations; they are tools that enhance the lives of people receiving care, ease the pressures on staff, and help us deliver more consistent and accountable services. Similarly, thoughtful design – from sensory gardens to dementia-friendly interiors – creates spaces that are not just functional, but therapeutic and empowering. At Care England, we believe strongly in the power of these partnerships. We are proud to support our members in building relationships with trusted suppliers who understand the sector and are committed to shared goals. The organisations featured in this Handbook reflect the diversity, creativity, and adaptability that we need to move forward together. But this is not only about

products and services. It is about shared values.
