Laundry detergents & chemicals – the 3-step process every care home should use
Delivering clean, infection-free laundry is about more than having the right machines. It’s also about having the detergents and chemicals set up perfectly to work in harmony with your laundry equipment. With so many detergents and chemicals available, where do care homes begin?
At WASHCO, we recommend using a simple 3-step process to protect your laundry and keep it stain-free. Our Chemical Expert, Emma Russell, explains why.
Detergents Detergents are available in three forms: solid, liquid and powder. We recommend using liquid detergent as it works well at all water temperatures.
When it comes to what detergent to use,
don’t be afraid of opting for a biological detergent over a non-bio. There’s a common misconception that biological detergent can cause skin irritation, but modern formulas have been developed in recent years that make this less likely. We typically recommend biological detergents, such as our WASHCHEMICAL Biological Laundry Detergent for care homes because they contain enzymes that are designed to boost cleaning performance and offer excellent removal of protein stains on white and coloured cottons and polycottons. When choosing your detergent check they work effectively at low temperatures and contain optical brighteners which increase the whiteness and brightness of your laundry, helping to maintain your linens for longer.
Destainer
Do you find that your laundry is clean but not always stain-free? It is important to work with your supplier to ensure you have the right destainer solution for your laundry. For example, within the WASHCHEMICALS range, you can choose a low-temperature destainer or hydrogen peroxide depending on your requirements. A low-temperature destainer is ideal if you
are washing lots of fabrics at lower temperatures. It can be auto-dosed to your machine during the initial sluice wash to
safely tackle any stubborn stains, reducing wash time, which is perfect for busy care home environments, and saving energy as stains can be removed at temperatures as low as 20⁰
C.
For sheets and linens which can be washed at higher temperatures, we recommend care homes use a destainer containing hydrogen peroxide. This type of destainer can be used at high temperatures and produce fantastic cleaning results on soiled linens such as sheets.
Fabric conditioner
Did you know that a good fabric conditioner can actually help save you valuable time? It can be auto-dosed to the final rinse to help
reduce wrinkles and prevent static on fabrics, making ironing easier and faster. On top of this, it will also help to protect your linens in the long run, meaning you won’t have to replace them as often.
When choosing your fabric conditioner, check if it uses encapsulated fragrance technology which you can find in our WASHCHEMICALS Fabric Conditioner. It maintains a long-lasting freshness as it releases a second burst of fragrance when the fabrics are touched. Using this simple 3-step process will give your care home peace of mind that your laundry is clean and stain-free after every wash. With our range of commercial laundry detergents and chemicals, WASHCHEMICALS, we can deliver a complete service to your care home, including the installation, set-up and management of your dosing equipment.
