Showing its true colours

With it having been long been known that certain colours promote certain feelings – for example cool tones such as blues and greens are known to be calming – Primera is keen to highlight its new handle finishes. The company said: “These finishes are as beautiful, stylish, and rich, as anything you’d find at home. For instance, we offer a gorgeous, polished-copper handle on an antique-bronze plate, and a striking black-chrome handle on a satin-black backplate. “Adding colour and visual impact to a place

where service-users wouldn’t necessarily want to be makes sense, even with something as

simple as a door handle. When people feel at home and happy in their surroundings, they recover more quickly.” Meanwhile, another recent addition to Primera Life’s product

range – the 729G ‘slimline’ backplate, is designed to be easy to fit to a wide range of door types, with the laser cut plate ‘strong, and built to Primera’s usual excellent standards’. The company said: “The new backplate is gently curved, its shape complementing that of our

Care now all under one roof in Guernsey

Guernsey’s new £24 million Oberlands Centre, situated alongside Princess Elizabeth Hospital in St Martin, which opened its doors in January this year – will see all mental health services on the island under one roof at the facility. Projected managed by Gleeds since 2012, the centre provides new and bespoke facilities for patients; it replaces Castel Hospital and other associated health units on the island.

Having demolished the former Oberlands House, Gleeds oversaw the construction of a new facility that provides secure and day patient accommodation for older adults, including four ‘extra-care’ beds. The site also houses consultation and administrative space for the island’s mental health community team. Nearby Mignot House, which dates back to the 1800s, has also been refurbished and converted into a CAMHS unit. The main contractor on the 90-week project was

Harbour View Construction, and the architects, IBI Nightingale.

Gleeds director for the South West region,

Terry Langdon, said: “We have worked closely with the States of Guernsey’s Health & Social Services Department to provide the mental healthcare staff with the best infrastructure and equipment. We hope this new building will provide a welcoming atmosphere for patients, and facilitate the very best in healthcare provision in the years to come.” Ruby Parry, director of Communities –

Social Services and Health at States of Guernsey, HSSD, said: “The project team has worked incredibly hard to deliver this fantastic new building. Our staff have commented on how much this environment has improved their capacity to deliver excellent and flexible care to those who need it, and our service-users are already benefiting from a light and airy environment that respects their choice and dignity in a way not possible at the Castel site.”

Loose lay luxury flooring tiles

Polyflor says its new Expona SimpLay PUR range of loose lay luxury vinyl tiles and planks for heavy commercial interiors ‘offers authentic reproductions of beautiful natural materials presented in an adhesive-free, ready-to-lay product designed to reduce installation time’. The 38 ‘stunning designs’ feature a variety of both traditional and contemporary wood, stone, and textile effects. Polyflor said: “Expona SimpLay’s unique, non-skid honeycomb backing layer and thicker 5 mm gauge ensures the tiles stay in position to create a robust, hardwearing floorcovering for high traffic, heavy commercial environments. Being a loose lay product installable over many different types of existing floorcoverings, subfloor preparation is significantly reduced, and each plank or tile can be installed, lifted, and reinstalled elsewhere, without leaving any residue.”

The new Expona SimpLay collection joins the’ high performance’ Expona range, which now includes Expona Design and Expona

Commercial luxury vinyl tiles, Expona Control – reportedly the world’s first luxury vinyl tile featuring ‘sustainable wet slip resistance’, and Expona Flow vinyl sheet flooring. Like other Expona products, the loose lay floorcovering is enhanced with Polyflor PUR, Polyflor’s ‘exclusive and robust’ polyurethane reinforcement, which is cross linked and UV cured to protect the floor and reduce maintenance costs.

trusted, anti-barricade Twin-Tech locksets. When installed together, the overall effect is a softer, less-obtrusive appearance.” Future planned launches include new finishes and colours for the plates to match interior decoration schemes or existing fixtures.

Remote management for energy savings

Following ‘a significant investment’ in its Trend Energy Services Division, Trend Control Systems can now ‘tackle demand side energy management even more effectively’ – by remotely managing a customer’s BEMS so it works more efficiently, thereby creating

greater energy savings and lowering CO2 emissions. Trend has provided ‘BEMS Bureau’ facilities for the past 20 years to answer alarms and deploy maintenance contractors, but can now also ‘create a centralised solution that allows building services to be investigated and controlled remotely, not just by making time and setpoint changes, but also by carrying out remote diagnostics, configuring temporary fixes, addressing energy-related problems, and predicting ways that equipment could be used more efficiently’.

The company said: “It is well known that

performing reactive and ad hoc maintenance can lead to unexpected costs, while poorly functioning equipment can drive up energy

bills and CO2 emissions. Using Trend Energy Services eliminates unforeseen costs, and ensures peace of mind by configuring a remote monitoring solution specifically tailored to a customer’s needs.” Operating from a purpose-built support centre, the expert team at Trend Energy Services will provide a quick response to BEMS-related issues by using software that checks the system’s functioning’ – including its control loops and sensors – highlighting events such as valves becoming stuck open, controls being manually overridden, and other potential sources of energy waste. Trend added: “Furthermore, by using data metrics, analysis, and powerful diagnostic tools, information on energy activity can be used to limit environmental wastage, for lower energy bills and higher efficiency. Smart strategies can also be implemented by monitoring usage patterns and demand response, so that plant uses less energy during high peak periods.”
