SECURITY AND ACCESS CONTROL

Technology keeping a tight rein on site security

In this article, Philip Verner, Regional Sales director, EMEA, at the access control and security management specialist, explains how CEM Systems is able to help mental healthcare facilities maintain a ‘zero-risk strategy’ to protecting staff, service-users, and visitors, by providing absolute control as to who can go where and when, within their buildings or sites.

As one of the world’s leading

manufacturers of access control systems, CEM Systems has a proven track record of delivering solutions tailored to security- conscious vertical market sectors such as healthcare, as well as aviation, data centres, education, and utilities. One of our key strengths is understanding each end-user client, and the vertical sector they operate within – whether it is an airport, hospital, data centre, or an oil and gas facility. Each will, of course, have its own unique security needs. Together with other Johnson Controls brands, we can use that knowledge to offer a comprehensive, customised hardware and software solution which provides a maximum level of security by being tailored to meet the specific requirements of each vertical sector. In healthcare environments, and in particular mental health facilities, we appreciate that it has never been more important to create a safe working environment, as well as to minimise the risk of contamination being spread. CEM Systems has capitalised on the latest advances in technology to deliver integrated access control solutions which help create a relaxed and secure working environment for healthcare professionals, while keeping patients safe.

Illustra Insight Intelligent Frictionless Access

The seamless integration of CEM Systems’ AC2000 access control, event, and security software platform with Illustra Insight is an excellent example of how the company is able to provide solutions with the flexibility to address a mental healthcare facility’s requirements. Illustra Insight is a hands-free access solution which offers a reliable, robust way of controlling and visually verifying who has access to restricted areas.

Utilising two imaging sensors to create a 3D facial topology which can quickly distinguish between an actual person and a ‘spoofed’ picture of a human being, Illustra Insight is designed to create an unobtrusive, frictionless, and totally hygienic way of enabling large numbers of authorised people to enter an area without coming into contact with door furniture.

Integrated into the AC2000 system, Time Hub is available as a client or web application, and is a reporting method for the office manager/administrator requiring statistics on the entering and exiting of staff.

Faces can be detected from up to three metres away, with simultaneous multi-face processing, in under one second. Integrated LEDs, combined with ‘Welcome/Deny’ audio messaging, ensure that visitors and colleagues instantly know if they are allowed to enter an area, while the opportunity to set up a customised audio greeting creates a unique user experience.

Integrated solutions

Adding to the ability to provide a high level of security without disrupting a constant flow of healthcare professionals, patients/ service-users, and visitors, CEM’s AC2000 access control software has been integrated with a wide range of other frictionless entry access control devices, including Idemia VisionPass facial biometric readers, and Idemia Morphowave Compact frictionless fingerprint biometric readers. In addition, AC2000’s ability to be at the heart of a comprehensive integrated solution is enhanced by its ability to interact with car park management and other security systems – such as fire, intrusion, and video surveillance, as well as keylock systems for secure lockers, in which employees can store their personal belongings while on shift.

‘Intelligent, feature-rich’ emerald terminals

The CEM Systems AC2000 integration with Illustra Insight ‘combines the quality surveillance of a leading-edge facial recognition camera, integrated with a comprehensive access control solution, to create a frictionless, unobtrusive experience for all’.

Found at the front end of many CEM Systems access control systems installed within hospitals, emerald access terminals provide card reader and door controller functionality, scramble keypad for PIN security, and fully integrated Voice over IP (VoIP) intercom. With a sleekly designed, 4.3 in LCD touchscreen, emerald readers also come with the option of fingerprint
