LABORATORY AUTOMATION
microscope combines capacity for up to 50 slides with high-speed image acquisition in two seconds per image. AI-enhanced classification further streamlines result evaluation and supports consistent interpretation.
Both flagship instruments are in the
final stages of development and will be available soon. We look forward to introducing these innovations to the IFA community.
BIOCHIP Mosaic technology combines miniature sections within the reaction fields of a microscope slide, enabling simultaneous analysis of multiple substrates, generating comprehensive antibody profiles for minimal hands-on effort.
Enhancing with artificial intelligence To support laboratories with the demanding task of IFA evaluation, the EUROPatern Classifier was developed, an advanced software that was trained during development using deep convolutional neural networks, a form of artificial intelligence. The software reliably differentiates positive and negative reactions, recognises specific fluorescence paterns and determines antibody titres. Results can be reviewed and verified by laboratory staff with a single click, which significantly reduces evaluation time. The Classifier currently supports
interpretation of immunofluorescence paterns on HEp-2 cells, granulocytes, Crithidia luciliae, antigen-expressing cells, and complex tissue substrates including liver, kidney, stomach, and oesophagus. Available assays depend on instrument configuration and country- specific regulatory approvals. Our software engineers continuously develop, validate and verify the software to further expand its scope of use and support IFA laboratories worldwide.
Latest advances Two major additions to the IFA portfolio are in the final stages of development: the UNIQO 400 and the EUROPatern Microscope 2.0. Both systems build on our proven technologies while delivering new levels of standardisation and efficiency. The UNIQO 400 is an all-in-
one solution that provides true walkaway automation of IFA. Our goal in developing this instrument was to reduce manual workload and to free up valuable time for
laboratory personnel – all at a much higher capacity than our other offerings. While our existing UNIQO 160 can process 160 samples and 18 slides per session, the UNIQO 400 is designed for high throughputs of up to 396 samples and 40 slides per session. It is thus well suited for laboratories experiencing increasing testing demands. The UNIQO 400 incorporates many of
our established technologies, including BIOCHIP slides, TITERPLANE and MERGITE techniques, automatic slide mounting and high-speed microscopy. One of its most significant innovations is the ability to perform incubation and microscopy functions in parallel, enabling highly efficient IFA workflow management. It also features automatic barcode identification of samples, slides, reagents and dilution blocks, ensuring complete traceability and supporting process integrity throughout the workflow. Its integrated microscope unit captures fluorescence images in just two seconds per image, after which data are transferred to the EUROLabOffice 4.0 software for evaluation using the EUROPatern Classifier. The EUROPatern Microscope 2.0 is a
next-generation IFA microscope, bringing together our most advanced microscopy and evaluation technologies in a compact system with a user-focused design. The
Live microscopy The EUROPatern Microscope Live is a compact device that combines state-of- the-art live microscopy with ultrafast image processing. It is designed for small- and medium-sized laboratories to record and view IFA images directly at the computer screen, thus eliminating the need for a dark room. The device incorporates novel laser focusing technology, which allows image acquisition in a record two seconds per image. The images are captured by means of a high-resolution camera, generating high-definition pictures. The device also features an automatic fluorescence calibrator, ensuring standardised light quality between microscopes even at different locations. For live microscopy it includes a multi-touch screen on the monitor to allow easy navigation and zooming. Team consultations can be undertaken without the need for a discussion bridge. The microscope hardware is
complemented by the EUROLabOffice 4.0 software, which provides image evaluation incorporating artificial intelligence as well as complete management of analyses and results. The software uses deep convolutional neural networks for discrimination of positive and negative results and patern recognition, including for ANA, ANCA, CLIFT, tissue substrates and recombinant-cell assays. The software communicates continuously between the LIS, the automatic processor and the microscope, ensuring rapid, secure, and traceable data exchange. Its complete network integration means that IFA results can be consolidated with findings from other analysis methods such as ELISA, immunoblot or ChLIA to produce a detailed and substantiated patient report.
PPi
The TITERPLANE technique is a gravity-assisted incubation technology that prevents evaporation and artefact formation while ensuring a synchronised start of all reactions.
