EXHIBITION PREVIEW
Following the relocation of this year’s event at short notice, restricted space at UKHSA means the following companies are unfortunately unable to attend as planned. To support them and the BSMT, Pathology in Practice is pleased to feature them.
DiaSorin
The test menu on the LIAISON XL and XS continues to grow and Diasorin has some exciting innovations being introduced.
Recently launched is the LIAISON Legionella Urinary Antigen test, a novel assay which overcomes some of the limitations of current UATs. Using dual antigen chemistry, it can detect Legionella species including L. pneumophila SGs 1–15, and other species such as L. longbeachae, which is the second most common. With improved clinical sensitivity and specificity and compatible for use on both the LIAISON XL and XS fully automated platforms, the assay removes the need for manual analysis and result interpretation, while providing standardisation and traceability. Through the acquisition of Luminex, the portfolio of molecular based products continues to expand. From point-of-care products to highly multiplexed, higher throughput testing, there is a wide range of customer solutions available including the NxTAG Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel which detects 16 bacterial, viral, and parasitic targets in a single-well format, delivering same-day results, in a streamlined and simplified workflow.

Randox Laboratories With the release of the 2022 version of ISO 15189, laboratories that report patient results are subject to more stringent regulations which aim to reduce the risk posed to patients. To this end, microbiology laboratories are required to participate in a
UNA Health.
suitable EQA programme. The RIQAS microbiology programme is a bi-monthly scheme that includes both bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. With this programme, participants are provided a case study and can chose to report the identification of micro-organisms at the Gram positive/negative, genus and species level, according to laboratory protocols. Multiple registrations mean that this programme is suitable for use in training and to review the ability of laboratory staff to correctly identify organisms.
The Randox lyophilised samples are
robustly characterised strains which are provided in self-contained, sealed tubes with pre-filled ampoules for reconstitution to enable ease of transport and maximise stability.
One of the stipulations of
ISO15189:2022 is: “EQA data shall be reviewed at regular intervals with specified acceptability criteria, in a time frame which allows for a meaningful indication of current performance.” This is why RIQAS prides itself on consistent and prompt report turnaround times. Upon closing of submission deadline, the scheme returns detailed and easy-to-follow reports within 72 hours, allowing laboratories to
identify failures sooner, and correct non- conformances more efficiently. The cycle for RIQAS microbiology begins in July 2024, so get in touch today to join the world’s largest EQA scheme.
