Liliana Font Argentina IFHE Immediate Past President


Engineering (IFHE). Steve Drinkrow is the executive responsible for the greater infrastructure department tasked with engineering projects, maintenance and capital procurement for Mediclinic’s 52 hospitals in Southern Africa. He has been in facilities engineering management for over 30 years, 25 of which have been in the hospital environment, with the Mediclinic Group. He qualified at the Cape Peninsula


University of Technology in 1978 with a Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.


Steve Rees Steve Rees is the Vice President of Capital Management, Edmonton Zone for Alberta Health Services. He is a Certified Facility Manager, holds three trade certificates, and is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s Construction Administration Program. He has worked in Healthcare Facilities Management for over 33 years and is a past president of the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society.


Christian Bender Following an electrical apprenticeship Christian completed a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. He has subsequently formed his own companies involved with electrical safety products, manufacture of printed circuit boards and isolated power panels. Latterly he has founded a company producing electrical safety analysers. In 2007 he became Chairman of Bender Industries transferring control of the companies to his family. He is a member of a number of Technical bodies including FKT, VDE, VDI and ASHE.

Walt Vernon Walt is the CEO for Mazzetti, an international program management, strategic advisory services, consulting and engineering firm. He serves on, and is the former chair for the NFPA99 Electrical Systems Technical Committee. He is the former Electrical Engineer for the California Hospital Building Safety Board. He also served as one of the three cocoordinators for the Green Guide for Healthcare, the nation’s first Green Healthcare rating system. Walt co-authored the IEEE/ANSI White Book, the international standard for Electrical Systems in Healthcare Facilities. He co-chairs the ASHRAE 189.3 committee. He chairs the Research and Development Committee for the Facilities Guideline Institute (FGIS). He represents the US to the International Federation of Healthcare Engineering. He is a founding member of the Built


Environment Network. In addition, Walt is a member of The Center for Health Design’s Research Coalition, served on the board of both Practice Greenhealth and Health Care Without Harm and wrote the section on hospitals for CALGreen. He also served as principal author for the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Health in the Green Economy, as well as developing and leading AHA’s Sustainability Roadmap for Hospitals – A Guide to Achieving Your Sustainability Goals.


Yoshihisa Hirayama Yoshihisa has a phD in Mechanical Engineering from Cranfield University in the UK and a BSc from Tufts University

of directors of Healthcare Engineering Association of Japan (HEAJ) and is an executive committee member of the International Federation of Hospital Engineers (IFHE). He is also a member of the organisng committee for the Environmental and Equipment Deisgn Award of the Association of Building Engineeirng and Equipment, Japan and is a memberof of the Society of Heating, Air-Conditioning and Sanitary Engineers of Japan. Finally, he is a member of the Architectural Institute of Japan.


Fábio Bitencourt Fábio Bitencourt gained a Doctorate in Sciences of Architecture (2007), Master in environmental comfort (2002). He was President of the Brazilian Association for Development of the Hospital Building (ABDEH) 2011/2014 and Vice-President of Technical and Scientific Development of The ABDEH from 2005 to 2008. Titular Emeritus of the Brazilian Academy of Hospital Administration (ABAH) since 2012. He is also Professor in post-graduate


courses in architecture, ergonomics environmental comfort and hospital administration in Brazilian universities. Author of various books, articles and publications on healthcare architecture, human comfort, healthcare design, hospital history, environments and ergonomics. Honorary Partner of the Chilean Association of Architectural and Healthcare Facilities (AARKHOS).
