Your kindness can change someone’s story
Harimalala celebrates with volunteer Chief Medical Officer Sarah Kwok, after free surgery with Mercy Ships.
Volunteer your skills - and watch lives transform.
For more than a decade, beautiful Harimalala draped herself behind scarves to hide the growing goitre on her neck.
But on board one of our hospital ships, she found herself transformed by hope, healing and the kindness of strangers.
Volunteers like Sarah Kwok, volunteer Chief Medical Officer cared for her with joy and gentleness, celebrating the radiant woman behind her condition.
After recovering from her surgery, Harimalala returned home feeling free and confident: “I feel like I’ve entered a new life.”
Mercy Ships brings free, life-changing surgeries to people across sub- Saharan Africa. Every transformation starts with someone choosing to volunteer. It takes thousands of volunteers like Sarah to operate our hospital ships and make hope and healing possible.
Want to use ordinary skills to make an extraordinary difference? There’s a place on board for you.
