Diagnostics

gives our patients peace of mind and helps us to see more patients more quickly by releasing appointment capacity for other patients.” The North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS

Foundation Trust has also implemented the technology. The Trust’s lead nurse colposcopist, Corene Veitch, highlights the benefits of the approach in terms of patient care and efficiency:

“Within colposcopy, it is essential that we

are able to confidently diagnose cervical abnormalities and make the best decision for patients at their first visit. The introduction of the technology to our services helps us to do this, and achieve a fuller and more accurate diagnosis for our patients. “Zedscan also gives us the ability to confidently rule out disease in many cases and removes the need for a diagnostic biopsy and unnecessary follow-up appointments. This gives our patients peace of mind and helps us to see more patients more quickly by releasing appointment capacity for other patients.” The technology is also seeing increasing

adoption across the globe, supported by an increasing body of research. “We have witnessed a phenomenal period of growth that sees us now being used in many NHS Trusts in the UK and in clinical settings around the world. I also

spoke at the World Health Organization (WHO) to discuss how the technology may help third world countries where screening programmes are not yet as advanced as the UK,” Sameer Kothari comments. “Most excitingly, we just received our most

robust research to date. Scientists looked at the examinations of 5257 women by 82 colposcopists in 26 clinics in 9 different countries.1

The biggest

increase was in women referred with low grade changes, often the most challenging to visualise, where ZedScan had over a 50% increase in high grade disease detection. “Overall, it showed that Zedscan increases cervical cancer detection by 24%. We are delighted with this especially in the diagnosis of hard to spot cases. We are genuinely making a difference,” he concluded.
