TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Updates

Changes Lives’, offers a 60 m² space and 12 standalone activities, and is set to be one of the largest of The Fair. The stand will offer students the opportunity to directly engage with a broad range of cutting-edge healthcare engineering technology. Activities on offer will range across AI,

VR, robotics, lighting, and medical devices, with fold- out guides available to inform young attendees of what healthcare engineering is, and entails, career paths and routes in, as well as an overview of the activities on show and their links to each represented organisation. IHEEM is proud to be partaking in the

event as part of the Institute’s ongoing development of its STEM strategy, commitment to inspiring, informing, and supporting the next generation of healthcare engineering leaders, and promoting greater diversity across the workforce. Full coverage of The Big Bang Fair and

‘Pioneering tomorrow’s estates’ The Wales Regional Branch Conference 2025, held at the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel near Newport from 7-8 May, brought together healthcare estates professionals from across the region under the theme ‘Pioneering the Estates for Tomorrow.’ The event opened with a welcome address from IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars (pictured), followed by a powerful keynote speech from Judith Paget, Director General for Health and Social Services and NHS Wales Chief Executive, who acknowledged the significant challenges facing the NHS estate, and emphasised the importance of quality and safety in every aspect of healthcare delivery. Throughout the two-day conference, a cohesive programme of insightful presentations addressed critical themes – including design and the built environment, operational management, the challenges of Net Zero, and new technologies and diagnostics, with the joint aim of providing delivery of modern, patient-centred environments. The Gala Awards Dinner took place on the evening of 7 May in the Augusta

Suite at the Celtic Manor Golf Club (see also pages 23-26), and had a celebratory feel. After-dinner speaker, rugby legend Sir Gareth Edwards CBE, shared some memorable stories from his life and career, while seven awards were presented to individuals and organisations from across Wales to recognise outstanding achievements in the sector.

New AP/CP logbook set for Epsom launch Looking ahead, the Institute is actively preparing for the 2025 Authorising Engineers Conference, scheduled for 8 July at Epsom Downs Racecourse. Mike Dunne – AE (Ventilation): “To be accepted into this group, and now lead with real issues that we have within our industry via the Technical Platforms, peer-reviewed studies, and assessment of latest technologies to enable a world-class healthcare infrastructure for the UK, really means a lot to me. I will bring a focus on sustainability, compliance, safety, and repeatability of assessment, through robust design and solid support of all RIBA stages and stakeholders within all processes. I am looking forward to my next professional steps that this registration has enabled. I will be offering my direct support to healthcare professionals and organisations from August this year.”
