All systems go for IHEEM’s July AE Conference: ‘Delivering the Standard’
Following the highly successful Authorising Engineers conference in July 2022, ‘Making the Standard’ (HEJ – June 2022; see photo), IHEEM will be back ‘Delivering the Standard’ next month with its 2023 one-day AE conference, again being held at Epsom Racecourse, on 11 July, and being delivered in partnership with Air Sentry. COO, Tania Davies, said: “April 2021
saw the introduction of new Terms of Reference for our Technical Platforms and our Authorising Engineers application and registration process, strengthening our governance, and bringing independence into the process. This year’s IHEEM AE Conference should be a ‘must-attend’ for all those working as Authorising Engineers, Authorised and Competent Persons, Apprentices, and NHS tradespeople, as well as Compliance Officers, and those responsible for reporting on the governance of the estates and facilities functions.” This year’s AE event will focus on the following themes:
Continuing Professional Development (CPD), with a look at what constitutes high-quality CPD, and why it is important. The session will also focus on the requirements of assessors from the perspectives of: n The Engineering Council in respect to professional registration.
n IHEEM Authorising Engineer registration.
Tania Davies said: “We will also take the opportunity to view the MYIHEEM CPD ‘app’, and in particular the new functionality for recording mentoring under the soon-to-be-released IHEEM mentoring and coaching programme.”
The work of the Decontamination Registration Board: Delegates will gain an understanding of how the AE(D) Boards are operating, and what they are doing to professionalise and improve
Members’ views sought on future amendments to BS 7671
In addition to the recently announced 2023 Corrigendum to BS 7671:2018 +A2, the IHEEM Electrical Technical Platform (ETP) is currently engaged in working through potential new work items for the next edition of BS 7671, which – it is anticipated – will be published in early 2026. IHEEM ETP Chair, Paul Harris, said: “While this may seem to be a long time in the future, IHEEM, which is represented at the JPEL committees by members of the ETP, is required to have all new work proposals submitted for discussion prior to 3 November 2023 in order that they be considered for the next amendment. The ETP is therefore looking to our membership for comments or practical issues which members believe should be

addressed in the next amendment of BS 7671.
“While IHEEM focuses on matters
relating to Section 710 Medical locations within BS 7671, it should be noted that the whole of the standard applies to the electrical installations we design, install, or maintain. We ask that initially you respond with any comments, queries, or topics for consideration, to me via Clair Wilkins (Platform Secretary) at
clair.wilkins@iheem.org.uk. “We intend to keep members
informed on the actions taken and progress made with the development of BS 7671 on an ongoing basis, including at October’s Healthcare Estates 2023 conference. Many thanks for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.”
the skills of Authorised and Competent Persons within the profession. Also covered will be training leading to AP/CP registration.
IHEEM Estates Compliance & Governance – ‘Moving to Digital’ Tania Davies said: “The requirement for healthcare organisations to ensure that robust governance systems are in place has never been more critical. Compliant estates and facilities services and functions are expected as a legal requirement of the NHS Constitution – to ensure that the estate is clean, safe, and efficient to support the delivery of high- class patient services. This session will highlight the partnership work by IHEEM and QuiqSolutions to provide a one- stop digital governance solution for the operational and strategic management of healthcare estate premises and services.” Topics covered will include:
n An integrated digital solution for Premises Assurance Model (PAM) reporting.
n ‘Paper to Digital’ – The development of IHEEM standalone Authorised Engineers applications to support independent AE audits and client continuous assessments for all specialist services.
n Feedback from a number of IHEEM TP pilot programmes.
