Polykemi adds recycling line and expands to Thailand
Polykemi Group is expanding with the launch of a subsidi- ary company in Thailand and the addition of recycling capacity in Sweden. Group company Rondo Plast has installed a Ready- Mac recycling machine at its plant in Ystad, Sweden, adding 2,500 tonnes/yr of capacity.
Until now, the focus of
PCR materials had been on PP and PE but in future, engineering plastics such as PC, ABS, PS, and PA can also be processed. According to Polykemi, this is made possible in part by laser
filters that remove impurities down to 100 µm. “With the ReadyMac, we manage a larger part of the process and can handle recycled plastic at an earlier stage than before,” said Magnus Andersson, Production Manager at Polykemi Group. He said the investment allows it to add process stabilisers to the material during upgrading and improve quality. Over the past two years,
Polykemi and Rondo have invested almost SEK 25m (€2.3m) with a view to increasing production
capacity by around 7,500 tonnes/yr. Separately, Polykemi announced it has estab- lished an office in Rayong, Thailand, adding that it “is continuously evaluating the possibilities for a future production facility for plastic compounds based on high-quality virgin and recycled raw materials”. Magnus Lindahl, CEO for
Polykemi Asia, said: “We have established a local office in Thailand and will supply materials from our factory in Kunshan, China. Depending on how our
local sales in the region develop, a future produc- tion facility in Thailand may become a possibility.” With two production units and two sales offices established in China, Polykemi said its production capacity for the Asian market is already strong. The office in Thailand is the next step in its plan to increase local sales presence. It enables faster and more direct service to customers such as suppliers to Japanese automotive companies.
