Partners to invest in Indian plastics recycling plants

A new joint venture has been estab- lished to drive the development of Plastic Materials Recycling Facilities (PMRFs) across India. The JV has been set up by environmental management service providers ReSR and ACL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of chemical company AIL.

With an initial investment of

approximately Rp1bn (€11m) ear- marked for the first facility in Hy- derabad, the PMRFs will focus on

segregating, extracting, and recycling resources from diverse waste streams, including plastics. The goal is to produce advanced circular materials that can be used as raw materials, fuels, or recycled polymer feedstock. The partnership said it is commit- ted to achieving a minimum resource recovery capacity of approximately 500 tonnes per day by 2030 and exploring various feedstocks, includ- ing those from ReSL’s core operations,

to maximise material and energy circularity. The inaugural PMRF is planned to operate in 15-18 months. “This arrangement is a pathbreak- ing development that builds on the synergies and competencies of two leading companies to address pressing environmental challenges by combining innovation with sustainabil- ity,” said Mirik Gogri, Director at ACL. www.resustainability.com www.aarti-industries.com

Collaboration looks good

Italian eyewear manufacturer Lapo and specialty material provider Trinseo have announced a collabora- tion to develop lenses made of recycled PMMA resins with a minimum of 86% recycled content. PMMA, also known as acrylic, is typically used for this purpose due to its high transparency, lightweight, and hardness. For the project, Lapo tested and approved Trinseo’s acrylic resin Altuglas R-Life V046 CR88. With its capabilities in waste collection, the recent addition of its new cutting-edge

depolymerisation demonstration plant in Rho, Italy, and years of expertise in plastic resin manufacturing, Trinseo said it is able to handle end-of-life PMMA collection, turning it back into high-quality

recycled PMMA resins using its recycling and manufacturing technology. Luigi De Donà, owner of

Lapo, said: “As a lens manufac-

turer for high-end eyewear, we are joining the sustainability journey with our custom- ers and end-users.” www.trinseo.com www.laposrl.it

ADS expands US facility

Water management solution provider Advanced Drain- age Systems (ADS) has announced the ground- breaking of a $30m expan- sion to its recycling facility in Cordele, Georgia, US. The move will increase the facility’s size to 35,000 m², provide up to 50 new jobs, and improve the company’s ability to provide high
