graphite content of up to 80%. It is equipped with a specialised injection unit to make the plates, and a second unit for additional research applications. Thanks to its advanced interfaces and digital assistance systems, the machine can be integrated into digital research and production environments. Engel says its energy-efficient drive technology, with powerful servo pump systems, enables resource-efficient manufacturing. “Engel understands our needs, operates with

Label demo MCC showcased its Medical IML system at NPE, which was developed with Arburg, Beck Automa- tion, Intravis and Kebo. The demo gave visitors the chance to see how the technology integrates automation, precision and quality control into medical manufacturing. It says the system combines advanced vision inspec- tion, hot runner-to-mould interaction and superior labelling and applies it to medical manufacturing. The system combines Arburg’s injection mould-

ing expertise, Beck’s automation and Kebo’s stiff mould concept – ensuring accurate, repeatable label positioning during injection moulding. This degree of accuracy minimises waste and ensures consistent product quality, says MCC. Intravis adds its vision inspection technology, which ensures high-quality products by detecting and rejecting defective products in real-time. This complies with legal requirements and industry regulations while guaranteeing patient safety. Relying on IML design concepts – and thanks to optimally laid out hot runner systems – Kebo’s IML mould achieves maximum precision with top gate quality and minimum core shift for perfect part straightness. MCC adds its expertise in medical labelling to

ensure that the labels used in the IML system guarantee efficiency and safe use – providing features such as temperature indicators, sterilisa- tion and unique coding on the label.

Bipolar plates Engel has supplied a two-platen injection mould- ing machine to TU Chemnitz – in order to make polymer-based bipolar plates for hydrogen fuel cells. The machine will be used in the research and production of the bipolar plates – which have a

great flexibility and provides the solutions required for our research on large-area, highly filled polymer bipolar plates,” said Jens Emmrich, head of research in polymer technologies and multi-func- tional lightweight design at TU Chemnitz. “Our joint work is a benefit to the entire hydrogen technology sector, where polymer-based bipolar plates can be used in applications such as lorries, buses, trains and stationary energy systems.”

Open house

At an open house event last year, Haitian high- lighted its fifth-generation machines – showcasing several live applications of thin wall components. A Zhafir Zeres Series ZE1200V with integrated

hydraulics produced 1ml syringes from PP, using an 8-cavity mould supplied by Ruhla. Material was provided by ExxonMobil. The machine operated with a laminar flow box and quality flap from Petek Reinraumtechnik – ensuring optimal production conditions for medical-grade parts – and a hot runner system from Meusburger. In addition, a servo-hydraulic Mars V Series (2000 kN) was used to produce drinking cups with a special crinkle design made of PP. A mould from Gollmer Formen was equipped with cavity pressure sensors, monitored via a Kistler ComoNeo Box. The moulded parts were removed by a Hilectro robot.
