Tropic Plastic & Packaging Industry, founded in 1963, is a leading South Africa- based manufacturer of flexible packaging material, supplying both the domestic and wider African markets. It carries out film extrusion, flexographic printing, lamination and bag converting, for a number of markets including food and beverage, dairy and industrial.
Product lines:
The company produces a wide range of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films and packaging items, including shrink wrap, laminated bags, transparent bread bags and custom flexible packaging. Other products include: printed PE shrink packaging and sheeting; printed and plain PE tubing; clear and printed contoured bottom bags; and printed PE wicketed bags. In addition, the company will supply custom packaging to meet exact specifications. Its multi-layer co-extrusion technologies create specialised structures such as special laminating films with thin sealing layers and recyclable PE mono-material structures for food products with critical shelf life and other sensitive applications. Its brands include Tropistar printed shrink film, Tropistar Plus FFS bags and Tropiseal.
Factory locations:
The company’s manufacturing facility in Durban uses mainly European technology for extrusion, 10-colour printing, and converting. It recently expanded its capabilities with a Reifenhäuser Evo five-layer blown film line with Ultra Flat technology to expand capacity while supporting sustainability and circular economy goals.
