the cure unit. A compact design enables easy integration into existing press setups. It has the flexibility to switch between LED and conventional UV curing without the need for specialised tools. In addition, its Defender View is designed to simplify print viewing and inspection. With its gesture-driven interface, high-resolution cameras, and optimised LED lighting, the system provides consistent imaging – and integrates with Baldwin’s Defender 100% Inspection system. Using UX design and technology, the system boosts imaging performance, providing live images at production speeds of up to 1000 m/min.


Label treatment Web treatment is also an important downstream technique. Hexachase Flexipack, a Malaysia-based label producer, recently installed a Nordmeccanica Super Simplex laminator – fitted with Vetaphone corona technology – at one of its production facilities. The company converts primary flexible materi-


als, including film and laminates, into flexible packaging, which is supplied in roll form or as pre-made pouches. The main materials it uses are PP and PE. To


laminate these films properly requires surface treatment prior to rotogravure printing. The new laminator – Hexchase’s fourth – was specified with two Vetaphone corona treaters, supplied through local agent Colorblend. These are VE1C-D (C4) models with a 1420mm web width and a 6kW power rating, that can run at speeds of 450 m/min. “We arranged to do a livestream demo for the customer from the manufacturer’s showroom in Denmark,” said Rayson Ng, business development manager at Colorblend Three things impressed the customer: the

Coat weight and mix ratio profiles are available after a single scan – quickly providing the information needed to confirm quality and make any necessary process adjustments. A trend display shows if the coating strays from tolerance, to enable corrective actions before a problem appears. This ensures a faster start-up time and reduced scrap, while minimising the use of adhesive time and reduced scrap. “The CW 9000 gives flexible packaging manu-

The system includes the CW 9000 sensor com- bined with the new LPS 1000 Scanner. At the heart of the CW 9000 is Nordson’s infrared sensor engine. Fast, bi-directional scanning updates at the end of each scan with maximum coverage of a production run. Infrared optics are coupled with advanced algorithms to achieve measurement resolution and performance meeting the quality demands of the flexible packaging industry. Applications include clear films, printed films and aluminium foils. The LPS 1000 is a self-contained low-profile scan-


ner that fits inside the frame of compact coating machines. It can perform fast scans and operate in a single point to analyse machine direction variations. The enclosed scanning frame prevents dirt from the scanner from falling onto the coating.
