EXTRUDER OF THE MONTH

Polyexpert Head office:

President: Founded:

Ownership: Profile:

Laval, Quebec, Canada Lise Plante 1979

Private

Polyexpert, founded in 1979 in Canada, is a supplier of polyethylene (PE) blown film in a variety of forms (including bags, pouches and mulch film) for applications such as food- and non-food packaging and agriculture. One of its specialities is mono-material packaging, in which all-PE packaging replaces PET/PE laminates. Its R&D department has also developed a range of biodegradable and compostable films.

Product lines:

The company makes film and film products for a range of end markets. Its flexible food packaging is used for fresh, dry and frozen foods (in forms including bags, barrier film and stand-up pouches). It makes co-extruded compression films (which can include recyclate) for consumer goods such as diapers. It also has wide experience in agricultural film – especially mulch film – including those made from biodegradable materials. Here, its SunGuard range are made for a variety of crops and climates. Polyexpert also offers a range of films for converters – who use them to make products such as heavy bags and laminated film.

Factory location:

The company has a single manufacturing facility in Laval, Quebec – where it produces more than 150 separate film products. Here, it has a focus on sustainability, with programmes to recycle scrap (it recovers around 35 tonnes each week) and cut energy use and water consumption at the plant. Between 2016 and 2022, it cut annual water use from 55m litres to just 4m litres.
