The Compounding World Expo 2018 is attracting strong interest from additives suppliers with many leading players booking stands in the three months since the exhibition was launched. Omya, Imerys and Solvay/Cytec are among the latest compa- nies to sign up for the exhibition, which will take place on 27-28 June 2018 at Messe Essen in Germany. Organised by AMI and Compounding World maga- zine, the trade fair will be free-to-attend and will feature a packed programme of seminars, industry debates and technical presentations. “We have seen large

numbers of suppliers of minerals and functional fillers join our exhibitor list in recent weeks,” said Matt Wherlock, AMI’s Exhibition Sales and Marketing Manager. “They include Imerys, LKAB,

Magnesia Germany, Mondo Minerals, Omya and Reverte”. These companies join a growing number of exhibitors offering a very broad range of additives, including JavaChem, MPI Chemie, OCSiAl, Poly- scope, Solvay / Cytec, Velox and Zhejiang Xusen.

On the machinery front, the

leading suppliers of com- pounding extruders, kneaders and mixers have been quick secure prime positions on the exhibition floorplan. They include Brabender, Buss, Coperion, Dr Collin, Extricom/ CPM Century Extrusion, Farrel Pomini, Feddem, ICMA San Giorgio, JSW, KraussMaffei Berstorff, Leistritz, Mixaco, Plasmec, Promixon, Steer, and Xinda. “We continue to be very

pleased with the extremely positive response to our launch of the first focused exhibition for the thermo-

plastics compounding industry,” said Andy Beevers, Events and Magazines Director at AMI. “The large exhibition hall is already filling up fast and we are receiving lots of interest from throughout the supply chain”. Warning: prices are edging up

March has seen a rash of companies making general or product specific price increase announcements in polymer additives, citing rising raw material and energy costs. Addivant announced a

5-10% hike for its Naugard I-5, 445 and Q, Octamine and Anox 405 ranges of polymeric inhibitors and amine antioxidants with immediate effect from 1 April or as contracts with customers allow. BASF announced a 10%

increase globally for most of its additives portfolio, including antioxidants, light stabilisers and flame retardants.

And South Korea’s Andy Beevers

Songwon said it was increasing prices for polymer stabilisers by up to 10%, also from April or as contracts allow.

Strong 2016 for Italian machinery

Assocomaplast, the Italian trade associa- tion for manufacturers of plastics and rubber processing machinery, equipment and moulds, said 2016 was a strong year for its members with rises in production, exports and imports and a generally strong domestic market. Exports were up by 1.7% on 2015 to a

record level of €2,970m, while production was up 1.9% to €4,230m. Italy, tradition- ally a strong net exporter of machinery and related equipment, also saw a 12% increase in imports to €850m as the domestic market grew by 6.3% to

€2,110m. This meant a slight fall in the trade balance to €2,120m. Total revenues for members are believed to have returned to pre-crisis levels at over €4,200m. Europe remains the largest market for

Italian machinery, equipment and mould exports, though its share fell slightly in 2016 to 49.3% despite a 2% increase in sales to the single largest market in Germany. Asia and Oceania increased their share to 16.7%, driven particularly by demand from Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, India and South Korea. The strongest individual country growth

came from Mexico (up 71%) but the US was relatively weak after years of previous growth, with exports slowing down from mid-year leading to an 11% fall on 2015. Overall, the NAFTA countries accounted for 14.5% of sales, up from 13.7% in 2015, while Central and South America fell from 6.0% to 5.5% and Africa increased its share from 4.5% to 4.8%. A member survey found that 43%

expect 2017 to see a further improvement and an upturn in revenues over 2H 2016, according to the association. ❙ www.assocomaplast.org
