New JIP initiatives for the yachting industry
Surf-riding and broaching
Surf-riding and broaching are likely to happen in following seas, and are responsible for severe and sudden losses of control that put the safety of the yacht at risk. The aim of this JIP is to find operative and design solutions to assess the risk connected to surf-riding and broaching, and mitigate this risk.

Roll stabilisers The roll performance of pleasure vessels is one of their most crucial features since it directly affects the comfort and wellbeing of passengers on board. The main objective of the Roll Stabilisers JIP is to set standards and criteria to facilitate the process of selecting suitable roll stabilisers for a given vessel design and to verify their performances.

Foil design Hydrofoil technology has been known for decades and mostly focused on the performance of hydrofoils in steady state conditions. However, there is still work to be done in terms of dynamic response of hydrofoils in unsteady conditions, particularly in the eventual presence of cavitation and/or ventilation. This JIP aims at achieving advanced knowledge to assist within the early design phase of new concepts of foiling vessels. The research will be focussing on the performance of the hydrofoils in unsteady conditions.
