SafeTrans further improved to ensure even safer transport!
SafeTrans is an integrated tool used to design and operate marine heavy lift transports and installations in a safe and efficient
manner using state-of-the-art analysis methods, databases and hydrodynamics. The present 5.1 version has numerous improvements included such as: - Implementation of Task Scheduler. The calculation of RAOs, SDAs, VMC and MCS simulations and the export of reports can be added to a task list, which subsequently runs the tasks.
- Performance improvements when running and analysing large MCS simulations.
- Design loads in VMC on the basis of 10 voyage return, in addition to 1 voyage return
- RAO & SDA plots in standard report without MCS simulation
- VMC standard report now includes Weibull plots
- RAO Importer feature added
SafeTrans 5.1 is fully compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. To get on board of the SafeTrans User Group, please contact Rob Grin,
safetransUG@marin.nl The next User Group meeting will be on November 5, 2013 at the Dockwise premises in Breda, the Netherlands.
SHIPMA v7.0 release
We are happy to announce the release of the fast simulation software SHIP- MA 7.0. Devel- oped by MARIN and Deltares,
SHIPMA 7.0 simulates the manoeuvring behaviour of ships (SHIPMA is actually an acronym of Ship Manoeuvring). Major improvements that have been implemented are a redesign of the GUI and post-pro- cessing functionalities. The GUI is now tree-based which provides a better over- view and workflow. Moreover, data can be copied to and from Excel easily.
SHIPMA now offers the possibility of choosing a simple set-up with constant wind, waves or current, or to import self- prepared environmental grids in which the number of grid points is practically unlimited. The post-processing has also been renewed by using Deltares’ Quick- plot. Quickplot is a standalone MATLAB application that generates required plots and can easily be extended with other MATLAB functionalities. A feature that is often requested has also been added so it is now possible to make a movie of the fast time simulation. Other new features comprise the ability to reallocate tugs and the support of vessels equipped with a double rudder and double propeller. For more information:

RETROFIT & GRIP together at EUROPORT
At the coming EUROPORT Exhibition in Rotterdam the research projects RETROFIT and GRIP will join together for a mid-term conference on November 7th
, 2013.
RETROFIT (Retrofitting ships with new technologies for improved overall environ- mental footprint) and GRIP (Green Retrofit- ting through Improved Propulsion) are both involved in green technologies for existing ships. The main conference themes are: Green technologies, Voyage simulation and
energy consumption, The retrofit process, Regulatory framework developments.
For more information on the projects, confer- ence programme and speakers visit www.
retrofit-project.eu or
www.grip-project.eu. The conference is free of cost and by invita- tion. Please contact the Centre for Maritime Technology and Innovation (CMTI) for more information or an invitation:
