From advanced to mycotoxins

A better producing dairy and sustainable farming solutions were the crux of these webinar topics, which had many insights on precision farming, sensors, data, automation and dairy farm efficiency, to name a few.

All About Feed: Mycotoxin management webinar Mycotoxins cause severe economic losses worldwide and are a serious risk to the health of all livestock. Mycotoxin management, therefore, is of the utmost priority for animal producers. Managing mycotoxins is becoming increasingly advanced as detection techniques become more sensitive and specific new tools enter the market to detect toxins at an early stage. Focus areas of our speakers were different strategies for mycotoxin elimination, mycotoxin detection methods, the effects of mycotoxins in feed on animal health and mycotoxin awareness. Three renowned speakers shed light on the exposure levels for farm animals and the different strategies for eliminating mycotoxins.

1. Regiane Santos, DVM, PhD researcher at Schothorst Feed Research presented “Mycotoxins and farm animals: the re- alistic exposure levels”. In the webinar Regiane showed the results of two different studies. From these it appears that even low levels, below the EU-recommendations, of mul- ti-mycotoxin contamination can impair animal perfor- mance, depending on the dose and length of exposure. In

addition, she addressed the fact that chronic intoxication is more common than acute intoxication and that more knowl- edge on interactions is necessary.

2. Second speaker Dr Clarisse Techer, research innovation de- velopment manager at Mixscience, gave a presentation on the topic “From in vitro to in vivo: key criteria to select the most effective toxin binder”.

3. Lastly, Julia Laurain, For Feed Product Specialist at Olmix spoke about “Testing toxin binders with in vivo references models: animals don’t lie!” She discussed the benefits of test- ing toxin binders with in vivo versus in vitro models.

The Misset International Webinar Week in November was filled with many themes and topics and boasts 10 webinars in total. Other webinars that also took place in addition to All About Feed’s Mycotoxin Management webinar and Dairy Global’s Advanced Dairy Farming webinar, were hosted by sister brands Poultry World and Pig Progress. It was an excellent opportunity to stay informed about relevant topics in the agriculture industry.

If you missed any of the webinars or would like to watch them again, you can catch them on demand via www.dairyglobal.net.
