DANGER ZONES Driver Training Program
Danger Zone fatalities have decreased by 44% in the last ten years, compared to the prior decade. That means 42 fewer children killed. Improved driver training has contributed to this reduction. Use this free program to continue reducing the tragedies.
The School Bus Safety Company has just updated our Danger Zones Driver Training Program and are offering free copies of this new program to all school bus locations. The changes to our prior program are:
• We have updated the examples of child fatalities in the last two years and the explanations of how each of these could have been prevented
• A new section has been added on recognizing unsafe stops
Why This Program Is Free
• We are providing this program for free because, like you, we really do care about the kids. If we are able to help save a child’s life, what could be more rewarding?
• We have been providing our Danger Zones program for free for more than 15 years. In doing so, we believe we have contributed to the reduction in danger zone accidents. Let’s continue to work together to reduce the accidents even more.
This program teaches the drivers all the actions they can take to prevent danger zone accidents. The program consists of a one-hour video training program, a trainer’s guide, and a driver’s study guide.
You can download a copy of the program onto your own computer or onto a thumb drive and use this program for many years.
School Bus Safety Procedures That Are Taught in the Program
1. Safely crossing the street in the morning 2. Safely crossing the street in the afternoon 3. How to safely retrieve items that are dropped 4. Never run after the bus
5. Staying at least five giant steps away from the bus at all times, except when boarding or leaving the bus. Never get close to the side of the bus.
6. No horseplay around buses 7. Never walk behind the bus or between buses 8. Remove drawstrings
9. Walk five giant steps away from the bus before turning
10. If you have to cross the street, walk five giant steps past the front of the bus before looking at the driver
