To address the common concerns voiced across the industry
Knowing which drivers are enforcing seatbelt usage can lead to safer rides for students and also gets the message out to parents and administrators. - Stan Brzezniak, Freedman Seating
about the responsibility of bus drivers enforcing usage. Freedman Seating touts new technology being pilot tested in the transit bus sector that could solve the issue. The company partnered with InterMotive Vehicle Controls to combine seating with electronics. The result is SeatLink. “This is a system that monitors the seatbelt usage and uploads
a report that is emailed to the transportation office,” explained Stan Brzezniak, the business development manager at Freedman. “Knowing which drivers are enforcing seatbelt usage can lead to safer rides for students and also gets the message out to parents and administrators.” SeatLink provides bus drivers a display that indicates which
seating position is buckled up or not. Green indicates the occu- pant has buckled up. The system can also distinguish between an unoccupied seat, and a student who tries to fool the system by buckling the seatbelt and then sitting down. ●
