Carriveau explained that when using Tyler’s software, the district can send automatic push notifications to parents on their cell phones to inform them of early or late school bus arrival times. “It is based on the route path that is built in the routing software and location of the bus,” he added. He continued that his drivers have experienced issues

with parents complaining about arrival times, and that he experiences this firsthand when he drives a route due to staff shortages. But those complaints have decreased, he said, as more parents use the app and can track how long it will be before the bus arrives. Meanwhile in Idaho, Transportation Liaison R.D.

Huntley also uses Tyler’s student transportation soft- ware, including Advanced Routing, Advanced Trips, Tyler Drive tablets and RFID readers for West Ada School District. He said Tyler’s routing technology has resulted in

route efficiency. “The software has given our routing staff powerful tools to create tailored routes for the var- ious needs of our district,” he said. “Driver confidence is at an all-time high with the use of tablets and the ability

to have turn by turn directions. Technology has played a valuable role in on time performance and customer satisfaction.” Speaking on the adaptability of routing software,

Huntley said he would like to see weather data be imple- mented into the software to adjust routes. “The ability to identify real-time traffic delays and dynamically re-route vehicles would be a useful tool guiding drivers to safer or faster alternatives,” he said. He spoke highly of the student ridership tracking tech-

nology. “It reduces the risk of children being left behind or wait- ing too long at bus stops…Parents can track their child’s bus from anywhere, without needing to call the school or bus driver,” he said of a convenience that saves time and effort for the transportation team. “It’s common for bus drivers to face frustration from parents when buses aren’t on time, especially if the delay is due to unforeseen circumstances like traffic or weather conditions.” He said that student ridership tracking and text noti-

fications can also help to decrease the amount of parent complaints and concerns.
