thing covered, even all of us hopping behind the wheel when needed.” The next part of his day focuses on the garage. Mc-
Craken leads a team of three mechanics that work on the vehicles at their location. “Each day is different and brings new challenges, but at the end of the day our main priority is to get the students to and from school safely,” he said, adding that his favorite part of his job is the people he works with. “We have an incredible group of employees at our garage who work tirelessly day in and day out to make this place run and make me look good,” he said. “From the mechanics in the garage, to the office staff to the drivers, they are the ones who make this place great. A day can start as a complete mess with call-offs, vehicle issues and a million other things, but getting to figure it all out with these people by my side is how I survive the craziness.” He said the mechanics he works with keep improving the garage with their work ethic, determination and new ideas help to the company. In terms of garage upgrades, he said they are currently working to include a lift for Ford Transit vans to better service them. However, he
said, while they have many upgrades, his philosophy is to not reinvent the wheel. “There are certain tech- nological advancements that make life easier, and I’m not against that, but I do believe in doing some things ‘old school’ because if it’s not broken, you don’t need to fix it,” he said. Along with his CDL and S and P endorsements, Mc-
Craken holds a Class 7A inspection license. Outside of work, he enjoys wood working, a skill his coworkers said he has a real talent for.
