NSTA Announces Safety Competition Winners The 51st Edition of the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition was held at Hays Consolidated Independent School District transportation facility in Uhland, Texas. It featured a chance for school bus drivers from across the U.S. and Canada to compete and showcase their school bus knowledge and skills. Supreme Court Upholds Eligibility of School Bus Wi-Fi Under E-Rate The U.S. Supreme Court verdict on the constitutionality of the Universal Service Fund is a win for school bus Wi-Fi advocates. The nation’s highest court overturned a previous 5th Circuit Court of Appeals


ruling that USF, which funds the E-Rate program discounts on internet connections for schools, libraries and school buses, represented taxation never intended by Congress with the passing of the 1996 Telecommunications Act. NHTSA Continues Allowing School Bus CSRS Following FMVSS 213 Proposal Proposed rulemaking by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration seeks to address an oversight in updates made to FMVSS 213 seeks to amend child safety restraint systems requirements. The agency last month issued a letter of non-enforcement for school bus CSRS, allowing for the continued use of the safety restraints designed for school buses. Read more at stnonline.com/go/n1.


Ohio Transportation Director Recognized for Outstanding Achievements The Ohio Association of School Business Officials named Michael Miller, the transportation director for Sycamore Community City School District in Ohio, as its 2025 Outstanding Transportation Director of the Year.
