Schultz said Miller even invites drivers into the garage so he can explain different safety features. Miller strictly adheres to a preventative maintenance schedule. For the past five years, the district has won the Utica National Insurance Safety Excellence Award, and it has achieved a bus inspection score of at least 98 percent from the New York State Department of Transportation. Miller works diligently to serve as the head mechanic


Scott Miller has been a school bus mechanic for the past 37 years and


is referred to as the glue that connects various aspects of his district’s transportation department. Not only is he invaluable in the bus garage and throughout the overall transportation department, he is involved in his community. He is a leader with safety trends in the industry, continues to develop his leadership skills and is fiscally responsible. Matthew Schultz, director of transportation for Brockport Central School District, said Miller prides himself and his department on safety first, and


and formally evaluates staff members he supervises to provide each of them with work within their skill level that they will excel at. Yet, Schultz said he challenges them with new tasks as well, so they can grow and expand their knowledge. Miller said he gives 120 percent to his job every day, and he looks forward to coming into work. He said he enjoys working with everyone in his transportation de- partment as they work to make sure the buses are safe to pick up students on a daily basis. ●
