QUALITY IN MOTION: HOW MSC AIR CARGO IS SETTING A NEW STANDARD IN SPECIAL CARGO
In an industry where standards and expectations are constantly rising, true differentiation is no longer about scale alone, but it’s about delivering quality at every step. At MSC Air Cargo, that quality is powered by people, precision, and a shared responsibility to move the world’s most sensitive cargo with care.
‘When you’re transporting healthcare shipments or fresh produce that families will put on their tables, there’s a responsibility that goes beyond logistics,’ says Joern Roehl, Head of Products and Head of the Americas. ‘Our certifications aren’t just symbols—they are a promise of trust, quality, and care to our customers and their clients.’
In the second half of 2024, MSC Air Cargo achieved CEIV Pharma and CEIV Fresh certifications. Two important milestones that underscore the company’s commitment to best-in-class practices, while also marking a strategic evolution in its special cargo portfolio.
Each of MSC Air Cargo’s newly launched special cargo products is tailored to meet the distinct demands of critical logistics segments:
Shipped Pharma positions service quality and product integrity at the forefront. Whether transporting healthcare materials or life-saving pharmaceuticals, the product offers end-to-end cold chain solutions, active containers and passive/ hybrid packaging unit options, and independently controlled temperature zones on MSC’s B777-200F fleet, supported by a global team trained to handle the most sensitive shipments.
Shipped Fresh protects perishables in their most crucial state. From fruit to flowers, freshness is preserved through CEIV Fresh–certified handling procedures, rapid handovers, specialized storage, and reduced apron time to limit exposure during transfers.
Shipped Special Solutions is designed for extraordinary cargo, from civil aircraft engines to high-performance vehicles. With tailored procedures, dedicated build-up processes, and a network of qualified stations, it ensures high-value, out-of-gauge cargo receives the focused care it requires.
‘Certifications and equipment are essential, but ultimately, it’s our people who make the difference,’ says Juan Devarez, Product Development Manager discussing the team’s dedication. ‘I’ve watched our handlers treat each shipment as if it contained something precious to them personally, because in a way, it does. Someone, somewhere, is counting on that cargo arriving exactly as it should.’
This commitment to quality is far from theoretical. Achieving CEIV certification required months of preparation, deep cross-functional alignment, and, very importantly, close collaboration with our cargo operations teams. From ramp to warehouse, their expertise, precision, and day-to-day execution play a pivotal role in translating standards into real-world excellence. Training sessions became forums for exchanging real-world learnings, and cross- departmental conversations now shape how MSC Air Cargo evolves its approach in real time. At the heart of it all, our operations teams control the tarmac - ensuring that every movement, handoff, and handling process reinforces the integrity of the supply chain.
As MSC Air Cargo looks to the future, its goal is not to be the largest, but to be the most trusted. In a competitive market where reliability and performance can’t be assumed, the company is earning its reputation through quality of service and attention to detail, delivered consistently, globally, and with care. This is what MSC Air Cargo calls Quality in Motion: not just moving cargo, but moving with purpose, driven by the knowledge that behind every shipment is a story that matters.
