Computation of rates
The graph is used to compute tidal stream rates when the tidal range is neither a mean spring nor neap range. Tidal Diamond or Tidal Stream Atlas data can be computed using this graph.

Touch or click the illustration above to launch the interactive RYA Computation of Rates. 1.
Before launching the interactive tool, use the tide table to calculate the range of the day in question. Make a note of this.
2. Note the neap and spring rate from the Tidal Stream Atlas or Tidal Diamond for the required time and geographical position.
3. Touch or click the RYA Interactive Computation of Rates to launch the tool, then use the Diagonal Line tool to plot the neap and spring rate on the relevant (neap or spring) dashed line, using the horizontal scale (Tidal Stream Rate). Use your finger or mouse to adjust the position of the line.

Touch or click Draw! to join the two plotted rates. The line will extend to the extremities of the graph.
Using the calculated range from step 1, enter the vertical (Mean Range) scale. Use the Horizontal Line tool and Draw! to intercept the line drawn in step 4.
At this interception, use the Vertical Line tool and Draw! a line to draw a line vertically. Read off on the horizontal scale the rate of the tidal stream for the calculated range.
