fills the air. All three restaurants serve a Polynesian feast featuring such dishes as poisson cru, broiled lobster with Tahitian vanilla sauce and pineapple financier cake. After dinner, Les Gauguines perform on stage. The event is often cited as a guest favorite.
Guest performers
See the pride in the face of a young child chosen to show off a hip move, as Le Children of Huahine come on board the ship to perform in Le Grand Salon. In Papeete, two-dozen members of the award-winning professional folklore dance group O’Tahiti E visit the ship for a jaw-dropping extravaganza.
Shore experiences
Working with local operators, the ship’s shore excursions suit many tastes – whether you want active explorations such as by e-bike or ATV, to learn about Polynesian origins on a guided tour of ancient archeological sites, or to visit a family-owned vanilla farm. A popular activity that comes with bragging rights is swimming with reef sharks and rays. On select cruises, a marine biologist will take you to explore the world of dolphins.
Or relax on some of the prettiest beaches you’ve ever seen – such as Paul Gauguin Cruises’ own private paradise on Bora Bora.
Tahitian Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée
The shore team can offer ideas should you prefer to explore on your own.
When the ship is at anchor, guests may borrow stand-up paddleboards and kayak in beautiful lagoons. For divers, the ship’s SCUBA team delivers excursions by Zodiac, with PADI certification available for beginners and onboard refresher courses.
For the kids
On this family friendly ship, the immersive Tahitian experience does not stop with the adults. The complimentary Moana Explorer Program, created with the local educational and preservation group Te mana o te moana, delivers hands-on learning experiences for those ages 7-15. All family members are invited to join such activities as water experiments and naturalist-led hikes. The program is available on select summertime and holiday sailings.
Making memories
Gazing at sunsets from the open decks, dancing under the stars, learning about Polynesian island life and culture, intimate encounters with sea life, simple pleasures such as sneaking naps under swaying palm trees, these are all part of the all-inclusive small ship experience on the m/s Paul Gauguin.
