is as important to your horse as well fitted tack!

Ontario Trail Rider Association Submission for ‘The Rider’ – FEBRUARY 2023 Issue
FEBRUARY (and yes, we finally have
snow!) is a great time to plan ahead for this year’s riding season. If you were lucky enough to ride during the winter, or maybe had a chance to pick up on some regular rid- ing lessons, good for you. While we tend to be busy during the riding season and always focussed on how our horse are doing, fresh- ening up on those rider skills is important. And what better time to do this during the ‘off’ season, especially if you also get a chance to ride another, well trained school master during your lessons. A balanced rider
or less than normal riding, plan to get your horse(s) back in shape g-r-a-d-u-a-l-l-y. AL- WAYS consider all the physcial changes your riding partner has gone or is going through, i.e. getting older, healed injuries, etc, but also look at and keep their current emotional well being in mind. My herd dynamics changed big time after having to lay two of their longtime herd members to rest last year. Our Dufferin County Forest Rides are un-
changed and we have the following dates at the campground in the Main Tract for May 12- 15, June 16-19 (Fathers’ Day), July 4-10 (7- Day), Aug 4-7, Sept 1-4 (Labour Day). Note, that all dates are Friday to Monday now which will give people the choice to not have to compete with the weekend travel on their way home. And July will again offer a full week to give everyone plenty of flexibility to come and go, or to stay for all 7 days. There is also an added combined Chesley Saddle Club/OTRA ride on the May 27/28 weekend, with Donna from CSC organizing to have a saddle fitter come out and the option to sign up for a saddle fitting session. The fee for this
and more details will be listed on our and their FB page as soon as it is finalized. Talking about other MORE OTRA
NEWS: We have ‘added’ the Ganaraska For- est Conservation Authority to its list of ‘in- sured’. This means that any organized group ride there planned by what used to be GHC in the past will now go through OTRA. We are very lucky to have a group of those former Ganaraska Forest Horse Club members, now OTRA members, who continue to plan and or- ganize events there. Details about those 3-4 rides for 2023 will be available soon and posted on our website and FB page. OTRA membership is required in order to participate in any of these rides! With this, a very WARM WELCOME to all former GHC members who have joined OTRA already! The Early Bird Membership Drive is still
on: Send in the form below along with your payment, or fill out the jotform on our website under
www.otratrailriders.ca/members and register electronically. E-transfers will still need to be send directly to
otratreasurer@gmail.com where we are now set up for auto-deposit. Any registrations re- ceived by February 14th (Valentines’ Day!!!) will be eligible for a cash draw. No excep-
tions! And just a reminder, OTRA accepts ap- plicants with liability insurance coverages through OE, CAPRI, or CRHRA. Happy Trails!
