MATERIALS AND EFFECTS: MOSAICS

DesignWorks Tiles discusses how its latest range of glow-in-the-dark mosaic tiles can add a dramatic effect to projects.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

Where first-class experiences are concerned, be it luxury accommodation, spa treatments or tranquil retreats, leaving a lasting impression is a prerequisite. To achieve this, many establishments look to introduce a series of unique selling points, enabling them to remain competitive and stand out from the crowd. However, sourcing such exclusive offerings is often easier said than done.

LESS IS MORE

Experiences which produce the ‘WOW’ effect and encourage guests to share the exultations with friends and family are few and far between; especially in this day and age where we’re becoming increasingly difficult to impress. Although, it’s important to bear in mind that not all differential factors in a service offering need to be elaborate gestures and sometimes the saying ‘less is more’ rings true. This is certainly the case with Designworks Tiles’ ‘Fosfo’ glow-in-the-dark mosaics, which are beautifully simple in concept but create an utterly stunning result; the perfect USP to add that little extra touch.

DRAMATIC OR SUBTLE ATMOSPHERES

What’s particularly appealing about Fosfo, is its ability to create a variety of atmospheres. As the mosaics are available in full sheets in four varying colourways, these tiles are capable of fashioning a complete light show for dramatic effect, ideal for creating a fun theme or adding ambiance to evening poolside events. In addition to this, the mosaics are also available in random patterns, as displayed in the accompanying picture, allowing for a subtler approach but an equally spectacular outcome. Such subtlety can provide a serene and classically elegant feel to a variety of spaces where tranquillity and a calming presence is typically desired, such as within a swimming pool, steam room or spa.

Unlike the full-sheets, Designworks offer Fosfo’s pattern effect in a choice of six colourways; from the neutral ‘Lepus’ to the more classic turquoise themed ‘Aquila’. With such variety on offer, there is a greater opportunity to create a look and feel suitable for individual establishments – categorically allowing you to add your own twist.

EASE OF MAINTENANCE

By day or light, the tiles are unassuming and guests would be none the wiser of the modest mosaic, but as night draws in and light fades, the tiles come to life and the effect is simply magical. However, regardless of its charming impact, one must consider the mosaics practicalities. How do these mosaics function? What time and resources are likely to be involved to maintain these tiles? Well, we’re pleased to inform you that the day-to- day upkeep is surprisingly minimal. As the luminescent

pigments within the mosaics are charged by either natural or artificial light, all you have to do is make sure they are exposed to light throughout the day, allowing them to charge, and then let them show off their enchantment by night. Easy, right?

What’s more, the tiles feature Designworks renowned ‘JointPoint’ technology which provides considerable advantages due to its greater ease of application and better adhesion. This ultimately results in a more premium product with a greater longevity.
