Each issue we ask an industry professional the Tomorrow’s Tile & Stone 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Simon Clough, Sales Director at Liverpool-based Palace Chemicals Limited.

Q3 Q4

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? My first job was as an engineering draftsman

for Sheetfabs Limited in Nottingham.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE TILING INDUSTRY?

My brother-in-law worked for Palace Chemicals many years ago, and when a Nottinghamshire area vacancy became available I put my name forward. It was all a bit out of the blue really and my old boss talked me into it! He did a good job of it really as it was a commission-only salesman role, and 36 years later I am still enjoying it!

WHO, IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRY, DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?

Alan Sugar - He is a great entrepreneur with a witty sense of humour.

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, WHAT CAR WOULD YOU BUY?

I would buy an Aston Martin DB11! Q5

IF YOU COULD INVENT ONE PRODUCT TO MAKE YOUR JOB EASIER, WHAT

WOULD IT BE? A tele-transporter as I seem to spend hours every week stuck in traffic jams!

— 34 — Q10

CRAIG WADDINGTON, FOUNDER OF EASY BATHROOMS, ASKED:

WHAT’S THE WORST INVESTMENT YOU’VE

EVER MADE? I have never made any bad ones (fingers crossed for the future!!)

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE GROWING UP?

An F1 driver!

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND? I like to play golf, and also watch rugby after

playing it for many years until recently.

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH ANY THREE GUESTS, DEAD OR

ALIVE WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros, rugby’s Gareth Edwards, and footballing great Bobby Charlton. All because they are legends of their different sports and sport has always played a huge role in my life, having played football for ten years and rugby for 37 years. I have also played golf for 20 years (and I am still going strong!)

IF YOU COULD VISIT ANY PLACE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU

GO AND WHY? China. Their culture and history fascinates me.
