Here, the voice of the Spanish tile industry, Tile tile trends, based on what it saw at the 2017 ed
At Tile of Spain, we are always monitoring how our 100 or so producers innovate and blend new fashions with their high-performance solutions for residential and commercial projects. At Cersaie 2017, over half of the 869 exhibitors were from the ceramic tile sector and Spanish tile manufacturers were out in force, allowing us to build up a picture of the latest looks…
MARBLEOUS
Marble effects were everywhere and the more obviously veined the better. For commercial interiors, there’s nothing more dramatic than marvellously striated marble for making an impression. And, if used on both walls and floors, maximum impact is achieved.
Luxury is easily created by the use of cool, marble surfaces and whether it’s in a hotel or a home environment, large-format porcelains that cleverly imitate the premium marbles are being widely used in bathroom and kitchens for splashbacks, countertops and feature panels. So a trend that may have started in the commercial sector is definitely influencing the residential market.
Black is popular with all black and pure black decorative schemes dominating, but closely followed by all white, all grey and all beige-sand tones. What’s noticeable is how desirable it has become to put streaky ‘marble’ everywhere – on both wall and floor. Of course this is easier if the right products are available; stand after stand at Cersaie offered porcelain floor tiles with designs that are available with complementary white body wall tiles, making installations of a complete marble look a cinch. These sumptuously veined tiles are particularly effective when their thoughtful placement in a room shows off the striations well.
