EYE-PROTECTION SAFETY IN FOCUS

Specsavers has launched a new safety eyewear range, which the company says is a significant step forward in workplace protection for glasses-wearing trades, delivering long-term comfort with user- focused design.

Almost half of the UK’s tradespeople wear glasses, yet they face a common problem: standard safety glasses do not meet their needs. Tradespeople shouldn’t have to put themselves at risk just to do their job, but alarmingly, many forgo safety glasses because they’re not compatible with their regular specs. Prescription safety eyewear is the optimal solution – a critical piece of PPE that protects a vital sensory organ from professionally damaging and potentially life-changing injury

One in three workers told Specsavers they knew someone who had injured their eyes at work. But this is more than just a statistic – an eye injury can mean significant time on the sidelines and crucial lost income for self-employed tradespeople. If you’re wearing safety eyewear over your specs on a regular basis, or not properly protecting your eyes at all, prescription safety glasses aren’t just an investment in your safety; they protect your ability to keep working.

Specsavers’ newly enhanced safety eyewear collection is the latest addition to a prescription PPE market that can be a gamechanger on work sites everywhere.

SAFETY, COMFORT, AND STYLE When you’re wearing safety eyewear for hours, comfort means everything – if glasses are cumbersome, tradespeople are more likely to take the risk of not wearing them, and one of the main reasons that workers who wear glasses just use their specs is that adding safety eyewear on top is prohibitively uncomfortable.

Created in partnership with industry leaders Stryder Eyewear, the new collection has been designed to deliver this long-term comfort. Particular attention has been paid to the areas that make the most contact with tradespeople’s nose and temples – state-of-the-art injection moulding methods have been used to create adjustable temple tips with over-moulded soft parts of enhanced comfort. The result is a pair of safety glasses that don’t leave you with a headache.

“A quarter of the tradespeople that we surveyed told us that they don’t protect their eyes on site. It’s a staggering number, and it shows that site safety has a serious blind spot when it comes to eye health” said Dona Mclafferty, Corporate Account Manager of Safety Eyewear at Specsavers. “Our latest range of safety glasses is designed to change that – together with Stryder Eyewear, we focused on eye protection that doesn’t impede someone’s ability to do their best work and allows them to do it all day long.”

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

The routine looks different for every builder, and it’s unlikely that two days will be the same even within a week. As a result, there is no eye protection solution that will work for everyone. The new collection is available in three tiers – classic, specialist, and premium – priced at £90, £100, and £130, respectively. Each tier has been carefully designed to cater to varying workplace needs, blending robust safety features with contemporary, stylish designs.

Fashion-conscious tradespeople also have the choice of an array of colours, including black, grey, crystal, burgundy, green and silver. Explore the collection in Specsavers stores nationwide, where staff will be on hand to provide the kind and down-to-earth service that customers have come to know well. The classic tier is also available in Specsavers’ popular 2-for-1 offer, so tradespeople can also upgrade their regular specs in the process.

We couldn’t do without our glasses-wearing tradespeople, and they’re currently having to put themselves in danger without proper eye protection. Injuries at work are devastating and, frankly, it’s not worth the risk to your safety or your livelihood. Prescription safety eyewear is an investment in a safer and more comfortable day to day.
